Quick answer
- Thailand all-inclusive resorts are few. The true ones are Club Med Phuket (4.5/5 from 8,000+ Tripadvisor reviews) and the new Riu Palace Phuket, which opened on Mai Khao Beach in September 2026.
- Bali's all-inclusives cluster in Nusa Dua: Samabe (luxury, all-inclusive as standard), Grand Mirage (family-friendly package) and Club Med Bali, which accepts only children 12 and up until May 28, 2027.
- Most other 'all-inclusive' deals in Phuket, Koh Samui and Khao Lak are packages added to a room rate, with drink hours, glass-by-glass service and excluded restaurants.
- Food is cheap. Numbeo puts a mid-range dinner for two at about $32 in Phuket and $29 in Bali, so all-inclusive mainly pays off for families, heavy activity users and remote islands.
- Go December–March for Phuket and May–September for Bali, and plan on 20+ hours of travel from the US with at least one connection.
- Coming soon: Rixos Water World Phuket (early 2028) and Club Med Koh Samui (2028) will add more true all-inclusive rooms to Thailand.
Our verdict
Our verdict: Club Med or Riu in Phuket, Samabe in Bali
In Thailand, book Club Med Phuket if you have kids or want a packed activity schedule. It's the country's longest-running true all-inclusive, sits on Kata Beach and has kids' clubs up to age 17. Couples and value seekers should watch the new Riu Palace Phuket. It opened in September 2026 with 24-hour all-inclusive on quiet Mai Khao Beach, at rates that undercut most Phuket five-stars, though its review record is still thin.
In Bali, Samabe is the one true luxury all-inclusive. It's expensive, but drinks, activities and butler service are built in. Grand Mirage in Tanjung Benoa is the family pick, with a lazy river, kids' club and an all-inclusive package that we price at about $290 a night. Club Med Bali is a strong resort that's only partly open to families in 2026–27.
For a short add-on to a Singapore trip, Club Med Bintan has the strongest Tripadvisor category scores here (4.7 for location and service) and is wrapping up a room renovation. Elsewhere, Southeast Asia rewards eating out. If you won't use kids' clubs or watersports, a breakfast-only rate plus local restaurants usually costs less. Our picks are based on Tripadvisor and Trip.com ratings, recent reviews, official inclusions and October 2026 prices. We have not stayed at these resorts.

Thailand all-inclusive resorts: the real options in Phuket, Koh Samui, Krabi and Khao Lak
Thailand grew up on room-only and breakfast-included hotels. A September 2026 industry report from C9 Hotelworks notes that Phuket and Koh Samui developed mainly on that model and are only now shifting toward all-inclusive. In practice, you'll see three kinds of offers:
| Type | What it means | Examples |
|---|---|---|
| True all-inclusive | One rate covers meals, drinks and activities for every guest | Club Med Phuket, Riu Palace Phuket |
| All-inclusive board option | The resort sells room-only, half board and an all-inclusive board side by side | Barceló Coconut Island |
| Package deal | A room rate bundled with set meals and limited drink hours, usually through a deal site | Hyatt Regency Phuket, Centara Villas Samui, Hyatt Regency Koh Samui, Pullman Khao Lak, ananea Beyond Khaolak |
Phuket
Phuket has the most choice. Club Med Phuket on Kata Beach is the long-standing family option, and Riu Palace Phuket opened on Mai Khao Beach in September 2026 as RIU's first hotel in Thailand. Barceló Coconut Island sits on a small island a few minutes off Phuket's east coast. Luxury Escapes also sells packages at Hyatt Regency Phuket, Diamond Cliff in Patong and Centara Grand Beach Resort in Karon. Read those carefully: the Centara offer, for example, covers breakfast plus one other meal, not everything.
Koh Samui, Khao Lak and Krabi
On Koh Samui, the deals are packages: Hyatt Regency Koh Samui (set-menu lunch and dinner with free-flow drinks) and Centara Villas Samui. Khao Lak, north of Phuket airport, has Pullman Khao Lak and ananea Beyond Khaolak packages with free-flowing house drinks. Krabi has the fewest options of all. Phulay Bay, often listed as all-inclusive, mainly includes breakfast and sunset cocktails.
Coming soon
The biggest changes are still ahead. Rixos Water World Phuket, a conversion of the former Splash Jungle water park at Mai Khao, is due in early 2028 with more than 600 rooms and villas. Rixos calls it its first all-inclusive resort in Thailand. Club Med Exclusive Collection Koh Samui is planned for 2028 with 303 rooms and a private beach of more than 200 meters, according to Travel Talk.

1Best in Thailand (true all-inclusive)
Club Med Phuket
Kata Beach, Phuket, Thailand
Our take
Club Med Phuket is the Thailand all-inclusive we'd book first, especially with children. It's a true all-inclusive, meaning meals, bar drinks, about 30 included activities, kids' clubs and nightly shows are all in one rate. It sits on 16 hectares with what Club Med calls the longest resort beachfront on Kata Beach. Kids' clubs cover every age from babies to 17, and the newer Family Oasis water play area is a hit with families who have compared it with Club Med Bali and Bintan. Club Med's site shows a 4.5 of 5 Tripadvisor score from more than 8,000 reviews.
The weaknesses are real, though. Trip.com guests score it a more modest 8.2 of 10, and recent complaints focus on older air-conditioning despite the renovation, uneven maintenance and a buffet that some reviewers found poor. Tripadvisor's category scores rate rooms (4.1) below service (4.5). Club Med lists about 90 minutes from Phuket airport. Book it for an active family week in Phuket's dry season. Skip it if you want a quiet, food-focused couples' trip.
Skip it if You want gourmet dining, a quiet atmosphere, or calm seas in the wet season.
Our category scores
Pros
- True all-inclusive with about 30 activities, including flying trapeze
- Kids' clubs from babies to age 17, plus the Family Oasis water area
- Long beachfront on Kata Beach
- 4.5/5 from 8,000+ Tripadvisor reviews
Cons
- Buffet quality divides reviewers
- Rooms rate lower than service, and some AC units are old
- Busy and noisy in school holidays
- Kata's surf is rough in the May–October monsoon
- Included activities
- About 30, including flying trapeze, Thai boxing, archery and pickleball
- Kids' clubs
- Ages 0–2, 2–3, 4–10, 11–13 and 14–17
- Grounds
- 16 hectares on Kata Beach
- Airport transfer
- About 1 hr 30 min from Phuket (HKT), per Club Med
- Renovated
- Refreshed rooms, pool deck and new Family Oasis (Trip.com lists 2023)
What guests say
The holiday was excellent, even by very high club med standards.
This was our first time staying at Club Med, and we left wishing we could come back again.
Even though it's been renovated, the air conditioning is old and doesn't cool well.
The food was on par with the worst buffet imaginable.
2Newest true all-inclusive
Riu Palace Phuket
Mai Khao Beach, Phuket, Thailand
Our take
Riu Palace Phuket is the most important new all-inclusive in Thailand. RIU opened it in September 2026 as its first hotel in the country, and it brings the Mexico-style 24-hour all-inclusive model to Phuket. It has 504 rooms in low-rise buildings on Mai Khao Beach next to Sirinat National Park, six dining venues including the Thai restaurant Ruen Siam, four outdoor pools plus a children's pool, a swim-up bar, the RIU Land kids' program and 49 Elite Club rooms with extra perks. It's about 16 km from Phuket airport. RIU's site showed junior suites from about €86–€90 per person per night in October 2026, which is low for a new beachfront five-star.
Early reviews are positive but few. Trip.com shows 9.1 of 10 from just 24 reviews. Guests praise the food, service, cleanliness and beachfront, while flagging small pools for the number of rooms, themed restaurants that aren't open every night and limited buffet variety. Mai Khao is also far from Phuket's nightlife. Book it if you want a modern, good-value all-inclusive in a quiet spot. Skip it if you'd rather wait for a longer track record.
Skip it if You want lively nightlife nearby or a resort with years of consistent reviews.
Our category scores
Pros
- Opened September 2026, so everything is new
- 24-hour all-inclusive with six dining venues
- Quiet beachfront next to Sirinat National Park
- Short 16 km transfer from Phuket airport
Cons
- Very few reviews yet
- Pools are small for 504 rooms, per early guests
- Themed restaurants don't open every night
- Far from Patong, Kata and Phuket Town
- Opened
- September 2026 (RIU's first hotel in Thailand)
- Rooms
- 504, including 49 Elite Club rooms
- Dining
- 6 venues, including Chantra (main) and Ruen Siam (Thai)
- Pools
- 4 outdoor pools, a children's pool and a swim-up bar
- Airport transfer
- About 16 km from Phuket (HKT)
What guests say
Delicious food, top-notch service, everything is spotless, and it's right on the beachfront!
The pools around the property are very small; given the number of rooms, they can get very crowded.
some of the themed restaurants are not open every night
3Best island escape
Barceló Coconut Island
Koh Maphrao (Coconut Island), Phuket, Thailand
Our take
Barceló Coconut Island, formerly The Village Coconut Island, gives you an island-resort feel without a long boat ride. It's on Koh Maphrao, a free water taxi of about 7 minutes from Laem Hin pier, which is roughly 50 minutes by road from Phuket airport. The 266-room resort has suites and private-pool villas, several pools and the LAKU Beach Club. Barceló sells room-only, breakfast, half board, full board and all-inclusive boards, and the all-inclusive adds day trips to nearby Koh Rang Yai. Trip.com guests rate it 9.1 of 10 from 166 reviews. In 2026, Luxury Escapes sold a six-night package with all meals, free-flow drinks from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., transfers and a massage for about €1,119.
The complaints are about age and fine print. Guests say some villas are dated and need renovation, report dirty outdoor tubs and check-in mix-ups, and note that 'all-inclusive' didn't cover every dish or restaurant. Book it if you want seclusion and private-pool villas at a mid-range price. Skip it if you want nightlife or a true everything-included resort.
Skip it if You want to walk to restaurants and bars, or expect every outlet to be included.
Our category scores
Pros
- Island setting with a free, short water taxi
- Private-pool villas at mid-range prices
- Flexible boards, from room-only to all-inclusive
- Included day trips to Koh Rang Yai on all-inclusive
Cons
- Some villas dated, despite a 2023 renovation
- All-inclusive doesn't cover every restaurant or dish
- Isolated: every outing needs a boat
- Beach is less dramatic than Phuket's west coast
- Rooms
- 266 suites and villas
- Boards
- Room-only, breakfast, half board, full board or all-inclusive
- Access
- Free water taxi, about 7 minutes from Laem Hin pier; pier about 50 min from the airport
- History
- Opened 2007 as The Village Coconut Island; renovated 2023 and rebranded Barceló
What guests say
The room was fantastic and looked exactly like the pictures
The villas are unfortunately a bit dated and are definitely in need of renovation.
We had all-inclusive, but not all dishes and restaurants were included

4Best luxury all-inclusive in Bali
Samabe Bali Suites & Villas
Sawangan, Nusa Dua, Bali, Indonesia
Our take
Samabe is the Bali all-inclusive we'd pick for a honeymoon or a once-in-a-decade splurge. It's a boutique clifftop resort of about 80 suites and villas in southern Nusa Dua, with a private beach below. Unlike most Bali 'all-inclusive' deals, the all-inclusive privileges are the standard way to stay. Forbes Travel Guide's preview describes the package, including activities and alcohol, as standard, with round-the-clock butler service, all-day dining, unlimited watersports and a candlelit dinner in a cave beneath the hotel. Trip.com guests rate it 9.5 of 10 from 114 reviews, and many villas have private pools.
It isn't flawless. Recent reviewers mention dated room fittings, flies at the outdoor barbecue and lunches they found average, and Trip.com notes extra charges at some restaurants and for special dinners. The price is high: Trip.com showed an average of about AED 4,119 (around $1,120) a night in October 2026. Book it for a pampered, beach-plus-butler stay. Skip it if you'd rather spend Bali money on Ubud and great restaurants.
Skip it if Value matters, or you plan to spend most evenings eating out around Bali.
Our category scores
Pros
- All-inclusive privileges are the standard rate
- Private beach and private-pool villas
- 24-hour butler service and unlimited non-motorized watersports
- 9.5/10 from 114 Trip.com reviews
Cons
- Around $1,100+ a night
- Some room fittings dated (renovated 2023)
- Extra charges for some restaurants and special dinners
- Secluded: a drive to anywhere else
- Rooms
- About 80 suites and villas (sources list 74–81)
- Opened
- 2013; renovated 2023
- Dining
- Rempah-Rempah, Crystal Blue Ocean Grill, a cave dinner venue and bars
- Airport transfer
- About 24–45 minutes from Denpasar (DPS)
What guests say
Everything is perfect! The room, services and amazing staff! I would recommend!
Although the room facilities are a bit dated and the hair dryer has low power
There were flies at the outdoor BBQ, and also in the restaurant.

5Best for families in Bali
Grand Mirage Resort & Thalasso Bali
Tanjung Benoa, Nusa Dua, Bali, Indonesia
Our take
Grand Mirage is the Bali all-inclusive for families who want the kids entertained and the bill predictable. The beachfront resort on Tanjung Benoa, about 25 minutes from Denpasar airport, has a lazy river, a mini water park with slides, a two-level adults-only beachfront pool, the Thalasso Bali spa and a kids' club open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. with separate groups up to age 15. Its Gold all-inclusive package covers three meals, drinks by the glass from late morning to after midnight, 24-hour room-service food, a daily minibar and non-motorized watersports. Luxury Escapes sold it from A$2,099 for five nights in October 2026, or roughly $290 a night for a room.
This is an older resort, opened in 1993 and renovated in 2025. Trip.com guests give it 8.5 of 10 from 187 reviews. They love the pools and staff, but some report damp rooms, a theme buffet they found overpriced and food and service they called average. Premium dishes such as lobster and wagyu are excluded. Book it for a stress-free family week. Skip it if room quality or fine dining ranks high.
Skip it if You want modern rooms, gourmet dining or a quiet couples' atmosphere.
Our category scores
Pros
- Lazy river, mini water park and long kids' club hours
- Adults-only pool for parents' downtime
- All-inclusive package from about $290 a night
- Watersports included on the Gold package
Cons
- Older resort; some rooms reported damp
- Buffet and service quality draw mixed reviews
- Drinks served one at a time from a select menu
- Premium dishes excluded
- Rooms
- About 300–370 (sources differ)
- Opened
- 1993; renovated 2025
- Kids' club
- Daily 8 a.m.–9 p.m.; programs for under 4, 4–7, 8–12 and 13–15
- Restaurants
- Grand Café, Ibu Kitchen, Jukung Seafood Grill, Mahi-Mahi, Bumbu Delhi, Chopstick
- Airport transfer
- About 25 minutes from Denpasar (DPS)
What guests say
The pools were a absolute highlight!
the room was so damp it made me question my life choices
Good resort for families but the quality of the food and service was average at best.

6Best for active couples (2026–27)
Club Med Bali
Nusa Dua, Bali, Indonesia
Our take
Club Med Bali is a well-loved true all-inclusive, with a 4.6 of 5 Tripadvisor score from more than 10,000 reviews shown on Club Med's site. It has a long Nusa Dua beachfront about 30 minutes from Denpasar airport, a spa, flying trapeze and new padel and pickleball courts. Tripadvisor's category scores rate service (4.7) and location (4.6) highly. Recent reviewers praise the staff, the tennis coaching and a reservation-only restaurant with a set-course menu.
The timing matters right now. Club Med says its kids' clubs are closed from July 1, 2026 to May 28, 2027 and that the resort only welcomes children 12 and over during that period. The Agung main restaurant is also temporarily closed for enhancement works, with meals moved to The Deck Gourmet Lounge and a food truck. An October 2026 reviewer said the resort was quieter because of fire damage and that their room wasn't serviced for days unless they asked through the app. For couples and families with teens, that can mean a calmer, well-staffed stay. Families with younger kids should wait until the clubs reopen in late May 2027.
Skip it if You're traveling with children under 12 before June 2027.
Our category scores
Pros
- True all-inclusive with long-standing 4.6/5 Tripadvisor rating
- Strong service scores and friendly staff
- Flying trapeze, tennis, new padel and pickleball courts
- Calm Nusa Dua beachfront close to the airport
Cons
- Kids' clubs closed and 12+ only until May 28, 2027
- Main restaurant temporarily closed for works
- Recent housekeeping lapses reported
- Premium liquors and wines are not included
- Rooms
- About 390 (Oyster lists 393)
- Included activities
- Over 30, including flying trapeze, archery, kayaking and yoga
- 2026–27 status
- Kids' clubs closed July 1, 2026–May 28, 2027; children 12+ only
- Airport transfer
- About 30 minutes from Denpasar (DPS)
What guests say
Our first time at Club Med Bali was such a fantastic experience, and we would definitely return!
My room wasn't attended to for some days unless I made a request via the app.
A family on their first overseas Club Med trip praised the Mini Club staff and the reservation-only restaurant, but felt the food was not quite as good as at Club Med resorts in Japan.
7Best near Singapore
Club Med Bintan Island
Lagoi, Bintan, Indonesia (ferry from Singapore)
Our take
Club Med Bintan Island is the best-reviewed resort in this guide that you can reach without a domestic flight. You fly to Singapore, take the roughly one-hour ferry to Bintan, then transfer about 20 minutes to the resort. Club Med's site shows a 4.6 of 5 Tripadvisor score from about 7,800 reviews, with location and service both at 4.7, the highest category scores of any resort here. It has a private beach of about 2.5 km on the South China Sea, more than 35 included activities from flying trapeze and paddleboarding to archery and pickleball, kids' clubs for every age to 17, a Sothys spa and access to the Ria Bintan Golf Club nearby.
The weak spot has been the rooms, which score lowest (4.1) in Tripadvisor's categories. Club Med is fixing that with phased room upgrades running through December 8, 2026, and warns of some noise near work areas until then. Recent guests describe renovated rooms as very clean and call the resort good value. Book it as a stress-free family add-on to Singapore. Skip it if you want Thai or Balinese culture on your doorstep.
Skip it if You want local towns, temples and street food within walking distance.
Our category scores
Pros
- Highest Tripadvisor service and location scores in this guide (4.7)
- About 2.5 km private beach
- Easy access via Singapore, no domestic flight
- Room renovation finishing in December 2026
Cons
- Renovation noise possible until December 8, 2026
- Rooms historically the weakest category
- Little to see outside the resort
- Two immigration crossings via Singapore
- Beach
- About 2.5 km private beach on the South China Sea
- Access
- About 1 hr ferry from Singapore, then 20 min from Bintan ferry terminal
- Renovation
- Phased room upgrades June 26, 2025 to December 8, 2026
- Included activities
- 35+, including flying trapeze, kayaking, archery and tennis
What guests say
Amazing value for money considering the experiences on offer! The night shows were a perfect experience.
We had very wonderful days in here. Renovated room was very clean.
Across thousands of reviews, guests rate rooms lowest (4.1 of 5) of all Tripadvisor categories, well below service and location (4.7 each), which is why the current room upgrades matter.
8Best in Malaysia
Club Med Cherating
Cherating, Pahang, Malaysia
Our take
Club Med Cherating is Malaysia's established true all-inclusive and the most nature-focused resort in this guide. It sits in about 80 hectares of seaside jungle on the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia. Rooms are traditional wooden houses on stilts, and the adults-only Zen Pool overlooks the South China Sea. Club Med counts more than 30 included activities, among them surfing, sailing, kayaking, archery and hiking, plus kids' clubs to age 17. It holds Tripadvisor Travelers' Choice awards for 2025 and 2026 and a 4.5 of 5 score from about 7,100 reviews on Club Med's site. Recent guests praise the friendly staff and the largely unspoiled beach and forest.
Rooms are the clear weak point. Tripadvisor's category score for rooms is just 3.6 of 5, against 4.6 for service, so expect rustic rather than plush. The specialty restaurant, The Enak, was listed as temporarily closed when we checked. Access takes effort: Kuantan airport is 45 minutes away, and Kuala Lumpur International about 4.5 hours by road. Avoid the east-coast monsoon in the northern winter. Book it for a jungle-and-beach family trip. Skip it if you want polished rooms.
Skip it if You want modern rooms, or you're traveling between about November and February.
Our category scores
Pros
- Travelers' Choice 2025 and 2026
- Jungle-and-beach setting with stilt houses
- Adults-only Zen Pool facing the South China Sea
- Strong service score (4.6)
Cons
- Tripadvisor's rooms sub-score is just 3.6/5
- Specialty restaurant temporarily closed
- Remote: 45 min from Kuantan, 4.5 hrs from KL airport
- Northern-winter monsoon on this coast
- Setting
- About 80 hectares of seaside jungle
- Rooms
- Traditional wooden stilt houses (Superior and Suites)
- Included activities
- 30+, including surfing, sailing, kayaking and archery
- Airport transfer
- About 45 min from Kuantan; about 4 hr 30 min from Kuala Lumpur (KUL)
What guests say
The resort facilities are well-maintained and well-equipped, with appropriate safety measures in place to ensure guests' comfort and well-being.
the food are really good and lots of choices
Guests' Tripadvisor category scores put rooms at just 3.6 of 5, the lowest of any category and well below service (4.6), reflecting the rustic, older stilt-house accommodation.

- Easy to combine with Bangkok, Ubud or a Singapore stopover
Reasons to think twice
- Very few true all-inclusives; most deals are limited packages
- Food outside resorts is cheap and excellent, so all-inclusive often costs more than eating out
- 20 to 30-plus hours of travel each way from the US
- Monsoon seasons bring heavy rain and rough seas
- Club Med Bali's kids' clubs are closed until May 28, 2027
Bali all-inclusive resorts: why nearly all of them are in Nusa Dua
If you search for Bali all-inclusive resorts, almost every result is in Nusa Dua or neighboring Tanjung Benoa on the island's southern tip. This gated resort district was planned for big beachfront hotels. It's about 25–45 minutes from Denpasar airport, and its calm, reef-protected water suits families. Ubud, Seminyak and Canggu are villa-and-restaurant towns where all-inclusive makes little sense.
| Resort | All-inclusive type | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Samabe Bali Suites & Villas | All-inclusive is the standard rate | Luxury couples, honeymoons |
| Club Med Bali | True all-inclusive | Activities; families from mid-2027 |
| Grand Mirage Resort & Thalasso | All-inclusive package (Gold) or breakfast rates | Families on a budget |
| Paradisus by Meliá Bali | Optional all-inclusive package | Families wanting a big resort |
| Sol by Meliá Benoa | Optional all-inclusive package | Budget travelers |
| Bali Tropic Resort & Spa | All-inclusive | Mid-range families |
The package premium can be steep. In Holafly's October 2025 survey, Sol by Meliá Benoa started at A$258 a night room-only or A$547 with all-inclusive. Paradisus by Meliá Bali went from A$289 to A$683. That's an extra US$200–$275 a night for two people, which buys a lot of Balinese dinners.
Club Med Bali in 2026–27: read this first
Club Med Bali is normally one of the best family resorts in Asia, but it's in a transition period. Club Med's own site says the kids' clubs are closed from July 1, 2026 to May 28, 2027, and that during that period the resort only welcomes children aged 12 and over. The Agung main restaurant is temporarily closed for enhancement works, so meals are served at The Deck Gourmet Lounge and a food truck. An October 2026 Tripadvisor reviewer said the resort was quieter because of fire damage. Couples may enjoy the calmer atmosphere. Families with younger children should book from late May 2027 or choose Grand Mirage.

Is all-inclusive worth it in Thailand and Bali? When it pays off
All-inclusive is the default in Mexico and the Caribbean partly because eating out there is expensive. Southeast Asia flips that logic. Here's what Numbeo's crowd-sourced prices showed on October 20, 2026, converted at that day's exchange rates:
| Item | Phuket | Bali |
|---|---|---|
| Meal at an inexpensive restaurant | ฿150 (about $4.50) | Rp50,000 (about $2.80) |
| Three-course dinner for two, mid-range | ฿1,089 (about $32) | Rp530,761 (about $29) |
| Local draft beer (0.5 L) | ฿85 (about $2.50) | Rp40,000 (about $2.20) |
A couple eating a mid-range dinner, a casual lunch and a few beers every day would spend roughly $50–$60 outside the resort. Compare that with the US$200–$275 nightly all-inclusive premium at the Meliá resorts above. For most couples who like to explore, a breakfast-included rate plus local restaurants is the better deal. See what an all-inclusive really includes if you're weighing the two.
When all-inclusive still makes sense
- Families with kids' clubs. Club Med's clubs run from babies to age 17, and childcare alone can justify the rate. See our family all-inclusive guide.
- You'll use the activities. Flying trapeze, sailing, tennis and kayaking are built into Club Med rates and would cost real money à la carte.
- Remote or island resorts. At Barceló Coconut Island or Club Med Bintan, leaving the property means a boat or a long taxi, so on-site meals are the realistic option anyway.
- You drink by the pool. Cocktails at resort bars are priced well above street-level beer, so heavy drinkers come out ahead.
- Rainy-season trips. When afternoon storms keep you on the property, a full-board rate removes the hassle.
Malaysia and Bintan: the Club Med alternatives
If you want a true all-inclusive in Southeast Asia without Phuket's crowds, the region's other Club Meds are worth a look.
- Club Med Bintan Island, Indonesia: on a private beach of about 2.5 km in Lagoi, North Bintan. Club Med says it's about an hour by ferry from Singapore, plus a 20-minute transfer from the ferry terminal, which makes it an easy add-on to a Singapore stopover. Rooms are being upgraded in phases through December 8, 2026.
- Club Med Cherating, Malaysia: set in about 80 hectares of seaside jungle on the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia. Rooms are traditional wooden houses on stilts, and the adults-only Zen Pool overlooks the South China Sea. It's 45 minutes from Kuantan airport, or about 4.5 hours by road from Kuala Lumpur International.
- Club Med Borneo, Malaysia: Club Med's newest Asian resort. It sits on 17 hectares at Kuala Penyu in Sabah, about two hours from Kota Kinabalu International Airport, and has a Luxury Space with suites. It's too new for a meaningful review record, so we haven't ranked it yet.
Outside Club Med, Malaysia has few true all-inclusive beach resorts. Most Langkawi and Borneo luxury hotels sell breakfast or half board.

Best time to go: Thailand and Bali have opposite seasons
Phuket and Bali are both hot all year (highs in the high 80s to low 90s °F), so the real question is rain. Their wet seasons fall at nearly opposite times, which is useful if your dates are fixed.
| Month | Phuket rain (in) | Bali rain (in) | Better pick |

| Jan | 1.4 | 15.3 | Phuket |
| Feb | 1.1 | 11.8 | Phuket |
| Mar | 4.0 | 8.4 | Phuket |

| Nov | 8.2 | 5.9 | Either, with rain |
| Dec | 2.7 | 11.8 | Phuket |
Phuket figures are Thai Meteorological Department normals for Phuket airport (1981–2010). Bali figures are 1991–2020 normals for Ngurah Rai airport, both via Wikipedia. December through March is Phuket's high season, with the calmest seas on the Andaman coast and the highest prices. May through October brings monsoon rain, rougher water at west-coast beaches such as Kata, and the best deals.
Bali's dry season, May through September, overlaps with US summer vacation, so July and August are busy. Bali also observes Nyepi, the Day of Silence, when the airport closes and guests must stay inside their hotel. Luxury Escapes lists it as March 8, 2027.
Malaysia's east coast, where Club Med Cherating sits, gets its monsoon in the northern-hemisphere winter, so it's best from about March to October.

What Asian all-inclusive packages actually include
The gap between a true all-inclusive and a package is bigger in Asia than in Mexico. Here's what the fine print looked like in October 2026:
- Grand Mirage (Bali), Gold all-inclusive via Luxury Escapes: buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner, with drinks served by the glass, one at a time, from about 11 a.m. to after midnight from a select menu. Premium items such as lobster, large prawns and wagyu are excluded and get a 30% discount instead. Room service food runs 24 hours and the minibar is restocked daily.
- Barceló Coconut Island (Phuket), package via Luxury Escapes: breakfast, lunch and dinner at two restaurants, free-flow drinks from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., and day trips to Koh Rang Yai. Dining at the beach club is excluded.
- Hyatt Regency Phuket and Koh Samui packages: set-menu lunches and dinners with a fixed window of free-flow drinks, three hours a day at the Phuket resort.
- Club Med (all resorts): meals, bar drinks, sports, kids' clubs and shows. Spa treatments, scuba and some premium experiences cost extra.
- Riu Palace Phuket: 24-hour all-inclusive across six dining venues, with extra perks in 49 Elite Club rooms.
Also check for blackout surcharges and compulsory New Year's Eve gala dinners. Grand Mirage's deal page lists a US$120-per-adult gala surcharge for December 31.
Getting there from the US and entry rules
Flights
There's no quick way to get here from the US. Expect at least one connection, usually through an Asian hub such as Singapore, Tokyo, Seoul, Taipei, Hong Kong or Bangkok, or through a Gulf hub such as Doha or Dubai. Door to door, that typically means 20 to 30-plus hours. Phuket International Airport is about 16 km from Riu Palace Phuket on the quiet north coast, while Club Med lists about 1 hour 30 minutes to Kata Beach. Denpasar airport is about 25–45 minutes from the Nusa Dua resorts. For Bintan, fly to Singapore and take the ferry. Given the journey, we suggest at least 10 nights, or splitting the trip, for example Bangkok plus Phuket, or Ubud plus Nusa Dua.
Entry rules for US citizens (check before you fly)
- Thailand: US passport holders can currently visit visa-free for tourism, but the permitted length of stay has been under review, so confirm it with the Thai embassy before booking a long trip. All visitors must complete the online Thailand Digital Arrival Card before arrival.
- Bali (Indonesia): buy an electronic visa on arrival on Indonesia's official e-visa site, and pay Bali's IDR 150,000 (about $8) tourist levy through the Love Bali site or app.
- Malaysia: US citizens can visit visa-free for tourism and complete the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card before arrival.
- Bintan: you'll pass through Singapore, then Indonesian immigration at the Bintan ferry terminal.
Rules in this region change often, so check the official government sites a few weeks before departure.
Mistakes to avoid when booking an all-inclusive in Thailand or Bali
- Assuming 'all-inclusive' means the same thing everywhere. Many Asian deals limit drinks to set hours, serve one drink at a time, or exclude the best restaurants. Read the inclusions line by line.
- Booking Phuket's west coast in monsoon season for beach time. Kata and Karon get rough surf from about May to October. That's fine for pools and spas, not for swimming.
- Booking Club Med Bali with young kids before June 2027. The resort accepts only children 12 and older until May 28, 2027.
- Forgetting Nyepi. Bali's airport shuts for the Day of Silence, and hotels keep guests inside.
- Paying for all-inclusive and never using it. If you plan daily excursions to Phang Nga Bay, Phi Phi or Ubud, you'll miss most included meals.
- Underestimating the journey. With 20-plus hours each way, a five-night trip is mostly jet lag. For a shorter beach week, consider Mexico or Hawaii instead.
- Ignoring new openings. Riu Palace Phuket opened in September 2026 and has fewer than 30 reviews on Trip.com, so expect some new-resort wrinkles. Rixos (2028) and Club Med Koh Samui (2028) will change the Thai all-inclusive picture again.

What travel-forum regulars say
Travel-forum consensus
A caveat first: all-inclusives are a niche topic in Thailand and Bali travel forums, so this summary draws on fewer threads than our Caribbean pages. It draws on three Mumsnet holiday threads on Thailand from 2024 and 2025, an older Tripadvisor Nusa Dua forum thread and a Tripadvisor review of Club Med Phuket. The view on value is consistent: food outside the resorts is cheap, varied and good, so many regulars see little point in all-inclusive unless you plan to stay put. One older Club Med Phuket review is headlined "All Inclusive is not worth the money in Thailand". The counterpoint, from the Nusa Dua forum, is that hotel food inside Nusa Dua's resort enclave can be very expensive, which is where packages at Samabe or Grand Mirage start to make sense. On where to stay in Phuket, Mumsnet parents repeatedly say to avoid Patong and pick Kata, Kamala or the quieter northern beaches around Nai Yang. That puts Club Med Phuket at Kata and Riu Palace Phuket on neighbouring Mai Khao in the right areas. They also stress timing: the Andaman coast is best from about November to April and can be too rough to swim in the rainy season, which matches our December–March advice.
Replies split on Phuket: some call Patong and Phi Phi seedy or too busy, while families recommend Kata, Kamala and the north Phuket beaches of Nai Thon and Nai Yang, plus Khao Lak and Koh Lanta for peace. Posters say the Andaman coast is best from about November to April and the sea can be rough in the rainy season.
Planning a three-week family trip, the poster heard from several replies that Phuket and Samui are built up and touristy, though others said Phuket still works for families. One warned against staying in Patong, and Kata was recommended as quieter and more family-friendly.
In a long-running but old debate on whether all-inclusive is worth it in Nusa Dua, skeptics say Bali's food is cheap, varied and high quality, while others warn that hotel food in Nusa Dua can be outrageously expensive, so the answer depends on how often you will leave the resort.
An older Club Med Phuket review, headlined "All Inclusive is not worth the money in Thailand", argues that for the same money or less you can stay at a much nicer hotel and eat and drink wherever you like.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Are there all-inclusive resorts in Thailand?
Yes, but only a few true ones. Club Med Phuket on Kata Beach has long been the main option, and Riu Palace Phuket opened on Mai Khao Beach in September 2026 with 24-hour all-inclusive. Barceló Coconut Island sells an all-inclusive board. Most other Thai 'all-inclusive' offers, at Hyatt Regency Koh Samui, Centara Villas Samui and Pullman Khao Lak for example, are packages with set meals and limited drink hours. Rixos (early 2028) and Club Med Koh Samui (2028) are on the way.
What is the best all-inclusive resort in Bali?
For luxury, Samabe Bali Suites & Villas in southern Nusa Dua. All-inclusive privileges are its standard rate, with butler service, drinks and watersports included, and Trip.com guests rate it 9.5 of 10. For families on a budget, Grand Mirage in Tanjung Benoa has a lazy river, kids' club and an all-inclusive package from about $290 a night. Club Med Bali is excellent for couples and teens, but it accepts only children 12 and up until May 28, 2027.
Is all-inclusive worth it in Thailand or Bali?
Often not for couples who like to explore. Numbeo puts a mid-range dinner for two at about $32 in Phuket and $29 in Bali, and the all-inclusive upgrade at some Bali resorts adds $200 or more a night. It is worth it for families who will use kids' clubs, travelers who want lots of included activities, guests at island resorts like Barceló Coconut Island or Club Med Bintan, and anyone who drinks a lot at the pool bar.
Can I take young children to Club Med Bali in 2026?
Not until late May 2027. Club Med says its Bali kids' clubs are closed from July 1, 2026 to May 28, 2027, and that the resort only welcomes children aged 12 and over during that period. The main restaurant is also temporarily closed for works. Families with younger children should look at Club Med Phuket, Club Med Bintan Island or Grand Mirage in Bali instead, or book Club Med Bali from June 2027.
When is the best time to visit Phuket or Bali?
Phuket is best from December to March, when the Andaman Sea is calm and rainfall is lowest (about 1–3 inches a month). May to October is monsoon season, with up to 15.7 inches of rain in September. Bali is the reverse. Its dry season runs from May to September, with August averaging about 0.6 inches, and its wettest months are December to February. Both are hot all year, with highs near 85–92°F.
Are there all-inclusive resorts in Malaysia?
A few, mostly from Club Med. Club Med Cherating on the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia is a true all-inclusive in about 80 hectares of seaside jungle, rated 4.5 of 5 on Tripadvisor from about 7,100 reviews. Club Med's new Borneo resort at Kuala Penyu in Sabah, about two hours from Kota Kinabalu, is the latest addition. Most other Malaysian beach hotels, including Langkawi's luxury resorts, sell breakfast or half board instead.
How long does it take to fly from the US to Bali or Phuket?
Plan on roughly 20 to 30-plus hours door to door, with at least one connection, usually through Singapore, Tokyo, Seoul, Taipei, Hong Kong, Bangkok, Doha or Dubai. The Nusa Dua resorts are about 25–45 minutes from Denpasar airport. In Phuket, Riu Palace is about 16 km from the airport, and Club Med lists about 90 minutes to Kata Beach. Because of the distance, we recommend at least 10 nights.
Do US citizens need a visa for Thailand or Bali?
US citizens can currently visit Thailand visa-free for tourism, but the permitted stay has been under review, and all arrivals must complete the online Thailand Digital Arrival Card. For Bali, buy Indonesia's electronic visa on arrival through the official e-visa site and pay Bali's IDR 150,000 (about $8) tourist levy on the Love Bali site. Malaysia is visa-free for US tourists with a digital arrival card. Always check official sites before travel.
