Quick answer
- The best Puerto Vallarta all inclusive resorts for most travelers: Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit for luxury (Tripadvisor 4.8/5 from 4,855 reviews), Hyatt Ziva Puerto Vallarta for families on a private cove, and Hilton Vallarta Riviera for value close to the old town.
- Best adults-only: Secrets Vallarta Bay in the Hotel Zone (Kayak 8.6/10) or the boutique Casa Velas (Kayak 9.1/10) in Marina Vallarta.
- Best budget: Riu Palace Pacifico in Nuevo Vallarta, averaging about $291 a night in September and $502 in February on Kayak.
- Banderas Bay is calmer than Cabo's open coast, and Nuevo Vallarta's long, flat beach is the best for families. There is no sargassum on the Pacific.
- Go November to May. June to October is hot, humid and wet: July to September each average more than 12 in of rain, and Hurricane Simon closed the airport from October 10 to 13, 2026 without making landfall.
- Safety: Jalisco (Puerto Vallarta) is at Level 3 in the 2026 U.S. advisory after a day of unrest in February 2026; Nayarit (Nuevo Vallarta, Punta Mita) is at Level 2.
Our verdict
Our verdict: Nuevo Vallarta for the beach, Puerto Vallarta for the town
Puerto Vallarta is the best-value all-inclusive region on Mexico's Pacific coast, and the right pick depends on whether you want to explore. If you want to walk the Malecón and eat in the Zona Romántica, stay in Puerto Vallarta itself: Hilton Vallarta Riviera is our value pick in the south Hotel Zone and Hyatt Ziva Puerto Vallarta is the family resort we would book, on its own cove. Adults should look at Secrets Vallarta Bay, walkable to downtown along the beach, or the intimate Casa Velas.
If the beach matters more, cross into Nuevo Vallarta. Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit is the luxury choice and the best resort in the region, Hard Rock Hotel Vallarta is the lively family pick, and Riu Palace Pacifico is the budget favorite. Avoid July to October unless you are comfortable with heat, storms and the risk of a hurricane. Our picks are based on Tripadvisor and Kayak review patterns read in October 2026, official resort facts and published rates; we did not stay at these resorts for this guide.

Where to stay: Puerto Vallarta vs Nuevo Vallarta vs Riviera Nayarit
Banderas Bay straddles two states. Puerto Vallarta and its south shore are in Jalisco; Nuevo Vallarta, Bucerías and Punta de Mita are across the river in Nayarit, which is why you will see the region marketed as Riviera Nayarit.
| Area | Transfer from PVR | Beach | Best for | Our picks |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hotel Zone and Marina Vallarta | 5–15 min | Long, gently sloping, busy | Walking to town, short transfers | Secrets Vallarta Bay, Dreams Vallarta Bay, Casa Velas |
| South shore (Conchas Chinas to Mismaloya) | 25–40 min | Coves under jungle hills | Scenery, quieter stays | Hilton Vallarta Riviera, Hyatt Ziva, Garza Blanca |
| Nuevo Vallarta and Flamingos | 15–25 min | Long, flat, wide | Families, beach walks | Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit, Hard Rock, Riu Palace Pacifico |
| Punta de Mita and the north shore | 40–60 min | Surf breaks and calm coves | Luxury, surfing | Secrets Bahia Mita (mentioned below) |
The south shore resorts are the closest to the old town and the Zona Romántica; Nuevo Vallarta is a planned resort strip with the best family beach but little to walk to. For a comparison with the Caribbean side and Los Cabos, see our Mexico guide and Cabo guide.

1Best overall (luxury)
Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit
Nuevo Vallarta, Riviera Nayarit
$892–$1,376 per night for two · Kayak 12-month average nightly rates (cheapest November, priciest March), seen Oct 2026
Our take
Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit is the best all-inclusive on Banderas Bay and the one we would book for a luxury Pacific trip where you still want to swim in the sea. Tripadvisor rates it 4.8/5 from 4,855 reviews, #1 of 42 hotels in Nuevo Nayarit, with a 2026 Best of the Best badge; Kayak users give it 9.5/10. The official site says it is the only all-inclusive resort on the Mexican Pacific with AAA Five Diamonds, lists eight restaurants and a Forbes five-star logo, and puts it about 20 minutes (11.8 km) from the airport. With 267 suites, it feels intimate for its class.
Recent reviewers describe the grounds as gorgeous and the staff as highly attentive, and Kayak's most-mentioned topics include excellent staff, live music and breathtaking views. The complaints are minor: lower-floor room assignments, steep gift-shop prices and the occasional slow drink refill. Kayak's average rates ran from about $892 a night in November to $1,376 in March. Book it for food, service and a calm beach; skip it if you want to walk to town.
Skip it if you want nightlife or a walkable town.

2Best for families
Hyatt Ziva Puerto Vallarta
South shore, Puerto Vallarta
$410–$711 per night for two · Kayak 12-month average nightly rates (cheapest September, priciest December), seen Oct 2026
Our take
Hyatt Ziva Puerto Vallarta is the family all-inclusive we would book on the Puerto Vallarta side. It sits on its own cove at Las Estacas beach on the south shore, about 7 miles from the airport and a short taxi from the Zona Romántica, and its Kayak listing highlights a KidZ Club with a mini-pool, the VitaMar spa and a nightly water light show. Kayak's editors describe ten restaurants and four pools. Tripadvisor rates it 4.5/5 from 15,767 reviews and Kayak users give it 8.4/10 from 551 ratings, with the private beach, friendly staff, the tequila bar and the Italian restaurant among the most-mentioned topics.
It is an older resort that has been through several refreshes, and some past reviews complained about dated buildings. One Kayak reviewer noted it is quiet and family-oriented, so groups looking for a party vibe should go elsewhere. Kayak's average rates ran from about $410 a night in September to $711 in December, fair value for a beach this sheltered. It suits a relaxed family week with easy trips into town.
Skip it if you want adults-only calm or nightlife on site.
Our category scores

- Private, sheltered cove
- KidZ Club and family pools

What guests say
Everything about this place is fantastic, the rooms have super comfortable beds and everything is very clean.
pretty quiet and family oriented. Not a bad thing but if you’re looking for a party vibe, I’d stay somewhere else.
An older Kayak review praised the staff but called the hotel run-down; Kayak's most-mentioned topics today are more positive, led by good food, the private beach and friendly staff.
3Best value
Hilton Vallarta Riviera All-Inclusive Resort
South Hotel Zone, Puerto Vallarta
$425–$563 per night for two · Kayak 12-month average nightly rates (cheapest June, priciest December), seen Oct 2026
Our take
Hilton Vallarta Riviera is the best-value big-brand all-inclusive in Puerto Vallarta and a smart first trip to the region. Formerly the adults-only Grand Fiesta Americana, it now welcomes families, with 444 rooms, a kids' club and an adults-only pool, and Tripadvisor still lists it as Hilton Puerto Vallarta Resort, rated 4.5/5 from 9,753 reviews. Kayak users rate it 8.6/10 from 926 ratings, and its most-mentioned topics are good food, amazing staff, room service, a private beach and its sky and martini bars. A September 2026 Tripadvisor guest said the Italian restaurant served the best pizza they had eaten at an all-inclusive.
Housekeeping is the recurring complaint: in summer 2026, Tripadvisor reviewers reported rooms cleaned as late as 4 pm and, in one case, rooms that only had beds made and towels changed. The kids' club can also fill up. Kayak's average rates were unusually stable, from about $425 a night in June to $563 in December. It's strong on food and value close to the old town; ask for early housekeeping.
Skip it if spotless, early housekeeping matters more to you than price.
Our category scores

Honestly, the Italian restaurant served the best pizza we have had at an all inclusive.
Room cleaning was done every day between 4 and 4:30 pm, way too late!
Great value - food was amazing - staff was very friendly - looks just like the pictures
4Best adults-only
Secrets Vallarta Bay Puerto Vallarta
Hotel Zone, Puerto Vallarta
$460–$794 per night for two · Kayak 12-month average nightly rates (cheapest May, priciest February), seen Oct 2026
Our take
Secrets Vallarta Bay is the adults-only all-inclusive we would book in Puerto Vallarta, mainly for its location. It sits in the Hotel Zone about 10 minutes from the airport, and Kayak's listing says you can walk to the center in about 20 minutes along the beachfront boardwalk, so the Malecón's restaurants and bars are easy to reach. Tripadvisor rates it 4.6/5 from 12,847 reviews and Kayak users give it 8.6/10 from 288 ratings. Dining includes Oceana for romantic dinners, the Manatee swim-up bar and the Rendezvous lobby bar, which stays open past midnight, and premium drinks are included.
It shares the beach with its family-friendly sister, Dreams Vallarta Bay, and Kayak describes the crowd as younger couples who spend the day by the pool, so it is social rather than serene. Kayak's most-mentioned topics are friendly staff, good food and amazing rooms, but "cold water" and a bed bug report also appear. Average rates ran from about $460 a night in May to $794 in February. Choose it for a lively couples' trip with the city on your doorstep.
Skip it if you want a quiet, secluded adults-only hideaway.

Dreams Vallarta Bay Resort & Spa
Hotel Zone, Puerto Vallarta
$427–$656 per night for two · Kayak 12-month average nightly rates (cheapest September, priciest December), seen Oct 2026
Our take
Dreams Vallarta Bay, the former Now Amber Puerto Vallarta, is the all-ages half of the Secrets and Dreams pair in the Hotel Zone. It is about 3.6 miles from the airport, walkable to the Malecón along the beach, and its Kayak listing describes a long list of restaurants, from Barefoot Grill to Himitsu and Tamarindo, with no reservations needed. Tripadvisor rates it 4.5/5 from 9,353 reviews, and Kayak users give it 8.0/10 from 192 ratings, with excellent staff, the kids' club, the pool area and clean rooms among the most-mentioned topics.
Food is its weak spot: "food was not good" is among Kayak's most-mentioned topics, and one older Kayak review was scathing about staff, while another praised fantastic service. Kayak's average rates ran from about $427 a night in September to $656 in December. Book it if you want a family resort close to town and the airport; book Hyatt Ziva if you want a more secluded beach.
Skip it if food is the highlight of your vacation.

Casa Velas
Marina Vallarta, Puerto Vallarta
$598–$863 per night for two · Kayak 12-month average nightly rates (cheapest July, priciest December), seen Oct 2026
Our take
Casa Velas is a small adults-only all-inclusive from Velas Resorts, the group behind Grand Velas, set in Marina Vallarta near the airport rather than directly on the sand. Its Tripadvisor rating is 4.8/5 from 2,549 reviews with a Best of the Best badge, and Kayak users give it 9.1/10 with a perfect 10 for service. Kayak's review summary says guests overwhelmingly praise the friendliness and attention to detail of the staff, the food and the breakfast, and the location close to the airport and marina.
The catch is the beach: you reach the sea at a beach club rather than stepping out of your room, and Kayak's summary lists the distance to the beach, room size and billing issues as minor complaints. An older Kayak reviewer found the base room one of the smallest they had stayed in and upgraded. Kayak's average rates ran from about $598 a night in July to $863 in December. Book it for a quiet, food-and-service couples' trip; book Secrets Vallarta Bay if you want beachfront.
Skip it if you want to step straight onto the sand.

7Best lively family resort
Hard Rock Hotel Vallarta
Nuevo Vallarta, Riviera Nayarit
$454–$1,226 per night for two · Tripadvisor average standard-room rates, taxes excluded, viewed Oct 2026
Our take
Hard Rock Hotel Vallarta is the family resort we would book in Nuevo Vallarta when you want energy, music and a swimmable beach without Grand Velas prices. Tripadvisor rates it 4.7/5 from 14,327 reviews, unusually high for a mid-priced resort, and both Tripadvisor and Kayak reviewers keep coming back to the staff; Kayak's summary says guests consistently praise their friendliness and willingness to help, along with the location and easy beach access. Its restaurants include Zen, The Market, Ciao and Frida, and it has 362 rooms.
The resort is showing its age, and the food is uneven. A July 2026 Tripadvisor reviewer said the hotel looks old with small flaws in the rooms, a March 2026 guest found the Italian restaurant and buffet weaker than at other Hard Rocks, and Kayak's overall score is a more modest 7.7/10. In October 2026 the resort posted a 'Hard Rock Hotel Vallarta, REIMAGINED' video on its YouTube channel, so ask whether renovation work is planned during your dates. It delivers a happy, social family week on a great beach.
Skip it if you want new rooms or gourmet food.

8Best suites with jungle views
Garza Blanca Preserve Resort & Spa
Mismaloya, south shore
$366–$724 per night for two · Kayak 12-month average nightly rates (cheapest September, priciest March), seen Oct 2026
Our take
Garza Blanca Preserve is a suites resort set between jungle hills and the sea at Mismaloya, on the scenic south shore about 9 miles from the airport. Rooms are the draw: Kayak's listing describes suites with furnished decks, hammocks, whirlpool tubs and kitchen-style wet bars, plus infinity pools and a spa. All-inclusive is sold as a package on top of the room rate, so check that your booking includes it. Tripadvisor rates it 4.5/5 from 4,962 reviews and Kayak users give it 8.3/10, with friendly staff, the pool and facilities, beautiful views and a free shuttle among the most-mentioned topics.
The less happy topics on Kayak are 'time share' and 'beds are small', and like other Garza Blanca resorts it runs a members' club that you may be invited to hear about. Kayak's average rates ran from about $366 a night in September to $724 in March. Go for space and views on the quieter south shore, and plan taxis into town.
Skip it if you dislike sales pitches or want a simple all-inclusive rate.
Our category scores
Pros

9Best budget
Hotel Riu Palace Pacifico
Flamingos, Nuevo Vallarta
$291–$502 per night for two · Kayak 12-month average nightly rates (cheapest September, priciest February), seen Oct 2026
Our take
Riu Palace Pacifico is the budget all-inclusive we would book on Banderas Bay. It sits on the beach in the Flamingos area of Nuevo Vallarta, about 6 miles from the airport according to Kayak, and its average nightly rates ran from about $291 in September to $502 in February, the lowest of our picks. Tripadvisor rates it 4.4/5 from 7,544 reviews and Kayak users give it 8.9/10 from 209 ratings, with 9.5 for service and 9 for cleanliness. A February 2026 Kayak reviewer said the pool and beach staff were always asking for drink orders and called it a high-end facility.
Kayak's review summary is clear about the weaknesses: food quality and variety, especially the specialty restaurants and buffet, mattresses many guests find too soft, and nightlife that ends early. The same February 2026 reviewer had to switch rooms for a firmer bed. If you want a clean, friendly, well-run beach resort at a price that leaves money for tours, this is it.
Skip it if food is the main reason you go on vacation.

- Calmer, more swimmable water than Los Cabos
- No sargassum seaweed
- Short airport transfers and lower prices than Cabo
- Whale watching, Los Arcos and the Marietas Islands nearby
Reasons to think twice
- Very hot, wet season from June to October
- Jalisco is at Level 3 in the 2026 U.S. advisory
- February 2026 unrest and an October 2026 hurricane disrupted trips
- Nuevo Vallarta is far from downtown
- Timeshare sales are common at several resorts
Best all-inclusive resorts in Puerto Vallarta (the city side)
Staying on the Jalisco side means the old town is 10 to 20 minutes away by taxi, or walkable from the Hotel Zone. These are the resorts we would shortlist:
- Hilton Vallarta Riviera All-Inclusive Resort (south Hotel Zone): 444 rooms, a kids' club and an adults-only pool, and the lowest average rates of the big brands; Kayak averages ran from about $425 to $563 a night. Tripadvisor lists it under its old name, Hilton Puerto Vallarta Resort, with a 4.5/5 rating from 9,753 reviews.
- Hyatt Ziva Puerto Vallarta (south shore): a family resort on its own cove at Las Estacas beach, with a KidZ Club and a nightly water light show, rated 4.5/5 from 15,767 Tripadvisor reviews.

- Garza Blanca Preserve Resort & Spa (Mismaloya): suites with jungle views and an all-inclusive plan.
- Casa Velas (Marina Vallarta): a small adults-only all-inclusive from the Grand Velas group.
Other well-rated options on Tripadvisor's Puerto Vallarta rankings in October 2026 included Velas Vallarta (4.7/5) and Fiesta Americana Puerto Vallarta All Inclusive (4.6/5).

Nuevo Vallarta all-inclusive resorts
Nuevo Vallarta, about 15 to 25 minutes north of the airport, is where you go for a long, flat, walkable beach and a classic resort week. It is also where the region's biggest all-inclusives sit. On Tripadvisor's Nuevo Nayarit rankings in October 2026:
- Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit: 4.8/5 from 4,855 reviews, #1 of 42 hotels; AAA Five Diamond according to its official site.
- Hard Rock Hotel Vallarta: 4.7/5 from 14,327 reviews, a strong family pick.
- Riu Palace Pacifico: 4.4/5 from 7,544 reviews, our budget pick.
- Villa del Palmar Flamingos: 4.7/5 from 7,614 reviews, labeled all-inclusive on Tripadvisor; Kayak's review summary flags service problems and timeshare sales, so read recent reviews first.
- Marival Distinct Residences: 4.8/5 from 6,913 reviews, a suites resort with an all-inclusive plan.
- Unico Hotel Riviera Nayarit: a newer adults-only all-inclusive from the UNICO group, already rated 4.9/5 from 873 reviews.
The trade-off is distance: downtown Puerto Vallarta is 30 to 40 minutes away by taxi, and outside the resorts Nuevo Vallarta is mostly gated developments and golf courses. Bucerías, 10 minutes north, has the nearest small-town restaurants.

Puerto Vallarta all-inclusive resorts for adults only
Puerto Vallarta has fewer adults-only all-inclusives than the Riviera Maya, but the ones it has are good.
| Resort | Area | Kayak rating | Kayak avg. nightly rate |

Secrets Bahia Mita, with 278 suites according to its Kayak listing, is the escape-the-crowds option on the north shore near La Cruz de Huanacaxtle, about 14 miles from the airport. Puerto Vallarta is also Mexico's best-known LGBTQ+ destination, and many resorts here are especially welcoming. See our adults-only guide for more picks.

What happened in October 2026
Hurricane Simon reached Category 4 strength on October 10, 2026 and tracked parallel to the coast with its eye offshore. Puerto Vallarta's airport closed at 6 pm on October 10, official flights resumed on October 12 and commercial flights were authorized from just after midnight on October 13, according to Travel Pirates' storm update. Jalisco evacuated at-risk areas in 22 coastal municipalities, and beaches stayed closed for a day after the storm. A week later, forum regulars were already watching the next system, which was forecast to move west, away from the coast.

Is Puerto Vallarta safe in 2026?
Puerto Vallarta had a difficult start to 2026. On February 22, a federal security operation in Tapalpa, Jalisco set off road blockades and vehicle burnings across the state; the U.S. State Department told U.S. citizens in parts of Jalisco, including Puerto Vallarta, to shelter in place, and resorts kept guests on property, as Fox News reported. Two days later, KWTX reported that buses, taxis and restaurants were reopening and some flights had resumed, though thousands of tourists were still waiting to fly home.
Today, Jalisco is at Level 3, Reconsider Travel, in the U.S. advisory reissued on May 29, 2026, while Nayarit, home to Nuevo Vallarta and Punta de Mita, is at Level 2, according to the levels listed by Riviera Maya News. In October 2026, regulars on the Tripadvisor Puerto Vallarta forum agreed that tourist areas felt safe, with the usual caution about quiet side streets late at night.
Our view: Puerto Vallarta remains a sensible all-inclusive choice. Check the advisory and resort alerts before you travel, buy insurance that covers trip interruption, and if the February events worry you, stay in Nuevo Vallarta on the Nayarit side.
Costs, flights and transfers
Puerto Vallarta is the most affordable of Mexico's big three all-inclusive regions. Kayak's 12-month average nightly rates for two at our picks ran from about $291 (Riu Palace Pacifico in September) and $366 (Garza Blanca in September) up to $1,376 (Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit in March).
Flights: Puerto Vallarta's Gustavo Díaz Ordaz airport (PVR) has nonstops from many US cities, about 3 hours from Los Angeles, 3 hours from Dallas and Houston, 4.5 hours from Chicago and around 5.5 hours from New York.
Transfers: short. Kayak lists Secrets and Dreams Vallarta Bay about 3.6 miles from the airport, Riu Palace Pacifico about 6 miles and Hyatt Ziva about 7 miles. Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit says its resort is about 20 minutes from PVR, and it charges for transfers.
Extras: tips, spa, premium wine, and tours such as Los Arcos snorkeling, Marietas Islands boat trips and whale watching in winter. Quintana Roo's Visitax does not apply here.

What about Mazatlán all-inclusive resorts?
Mazatlán, farther up the Pacific coast in Sinaloa, has long beaches, a lovely historic center and some of the lowest all-inclusive prices in Mexico. Pueblo Bonito, for example, runs its Emerald Bay resorts there and sells all-inclusive plans across its Mazatlán and Cabo properties, according to its official site.
The problem in 2026 is safety: Sinaloa is at Level 4, Do Not Travel, in the U.S. advisory, the highest level, alongside Guerrero. Until that changes, we recommend Puerto Vallarta or Nuevo Vallarta instead. If you do go, stay in the Zona Dorada or the historic center, use resort transport and check the full advisory text for any tourist-zone exceptions.

Mistakes to avoid when booking Puerto Vallarta
- Picking Nuevo Vallarta if you want to explore town. Downtown is 30 to 40 minutes away; choose the Hotel Zone or south shore instead.
- Booking July to September without a plan. These are the hottest, wettest months and the heart of hurricane season.
- Taking the airport timeshare bait. Walk past the desks offering free transfers and tours in the arrivals hall.
- Assuming every Villa del Palmar or Garza Blanca rate is all-inclusive. These resorts sell all-inclusive as a plan; check your booking.
- Ignoring the advisory. Jalisco's Level 3 rating is worth a quick check before you fly.

What travel-forum regulars say
Travel-forum consensus
On the Tripadvisor Puerto Vallarta forum in October 2026, two topics dominated. Safety: when a first-time visitor asked which areas to avoid, the regulars' answer was that there is no unsafe area for tourists in the places you would stay, with the standard caution about walking quiet side streets alone late at night and a note that the Hotel Zone and marina have their own security. Nobody in that thread brought up February's unrest. Storms: a week after Hurricane Simon, a traveler asked whether another hurricane was coming; regulars replied that the system had not yet formed, that its track pointed west, away from the coast, and that the National Hurricane Center is the place to check. The practical takeaway matches ours: book November to May for weather, buy insurance for summer and fall trips, and treat Puerto Vallarta's tourist zones as safe while keeping an eye on the advisory.
There is no "unsafe" area for the tourist.
One regular added that quiet side streets may be less suitable for walking alone late at night, while the Hotel Zone and marina have on-site or nearby security.
Days after Hurricane Simon, regulars told a worried traveler the next system had not formed yet, was tracking west away from the coast, and should be followed on the National Hurricane Center site.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
What is the best all-inclusive resort in Puerto Vallarta?
Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit in Nuevo Vallarta is the best overall: Tripadvisor 4.8/5 from 4,855 reviews, AAA Five Diamond status and a calm, swimmable beach. On the Puerto Vallarta side, Hyatt Ziva Puerto Vallarta is our family pick, Hilton Vallarta Riviera our value pick and Secrets Vallarta Bay our adults-only pick.
Is it better to stay in Puerto Vallarta or Nuevo Vallarta?
Stay in Puerto Vallarta's Hotel Zone or south shore if you want to explore the old town, the Malecón and the Zona Romántica; transfers are 10 to 30 minutes. Stay in Nuevo Vallarta if the beach matters most: it is long, flat and family-friendly, but downtown is 30 to 40 minutes away. Nuevo Vallarta is also in Nayarit, which is at Level 2 in the U.S. advisory versus Level 3 for Jalisco.
What are the best adults-only all-inclusive resorts in Puerto Vallarta?
Secrets Vallarta Bay is the social, walkable-to-town option, rated 8.6/10 on Kayak. Casa Velas is the quiet boutique choice with a perfect Kayak service score. Secrets Bahia Mita near Punta de Mita and the newer Unico Hotel Riviera Nayarit in Nuevo Vallarta are strong alternatives if you do not need to be near downtown.
Is Hilton Vallarta Riviera all-inclusive?
Yes. Hilton Vallarta Riviera All-Inclusive Resort, formerly the adults-only Grand Fiesta Americana and listed on Tripadvisor as Hilton Puerto Vallarta Resort, is fully all-inclusive and now welcomes families. It has 444 rooms, a kids' club and an adults-only pool. Kayak's average rates ran from about $425 to $563 a night over the past year.
When is the best time to go to Puerto Vallarta?
November to May, when it is dry, sunny and in the low to mid 80s °F. December to April is peak season with higher prices and humpback whales in the bay. June to October is hot and very wet, with July to September each averaging more than 12 inches of rain, and it overlaps the eastern Pacific hurricane season.
Is Puerto Vallarta safe in 2026?
Puerto Vallarta's tourist areas are generally considered safe, but Jalisco is at Level 3, Reconsider Travel, in the U.S. advisory. On February 22, 2026, unrest across Jalisco led the State Department to tell Americans in Puerto Vallarta to shelter in place for a day, and services reopened within days. Nayarit, home to Nuevo Vallarta, is at Level 2. Check the advisory before you go.
Did Hurricane Simon damage Puerto Vallarta?
Hurricane Simon reached Category 4 on October 10, 2026 but its eye stayed offshore as it tracked along the coast. Puerto Vallarta's airport closed from the evening of October 10 until commercial flights were authorized early on October 13, and beaches stayed closed for a day. Initial reports did not describe structural damage to hotels; check with your resort for property-specific updates.
Are Mazatlán all-inclusive resorts worth it?
Mazatlán has long beaches, a charming historic center and low prices, and brands such as Pueblo Bonito sell all-inclusive plans there. But Sinaloa is at Level 4, Do Not Travel, in the 2026 U.S. advisory, so we recommend Puerto Vallarta or Nuevo Vallarta instead until that changes.
How much does a Puerto Vallarta all-inclusive cost?
For two people for a week, budget roughly $2,800 to $4,000 at a value resort like Riu Palace Pacifico or Hilton Vallarta Riviera, including flights, transfers and tips. A luxury week at Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit in peak season can pass $12,000. Kayak's average nightly rates at our picks ran from about $291 to $1,376.
