Best Cancun All-Inclusive Resorts (2026): 14 We'd Actually Book

Tripadvisor ranks 251 hotels in Cancun, and the all-inclusives run from $350-a-night party towers to $1,000-plus butler resorts. We sorted 14 of them by area, beach, guest ratings and Kayak's real price data so you can match the resort to the trip you actually want.

Quick answer

  • The best Cancun all-inclusive resorts for most couples are Le Blanc Spa Resort (4.8/5 on Tripadvisor from 10,907 reviews, adults-only, Hotel Zone) and Atelier Playa Mujeres (4.8/5, adults-only, 30–40 minutes north of the airport).
  • Best for families: Hyatt Ziva Cancun on the Punta Cancun point (4.6/5, calmer water, kids club). Pick Moon Palace Cancun (2,036 rooms, about 10 minutes from the airport) if you want the most activities.
  • Best adults-only party: Temptation Cancun Resort (4.5/5, theme nights). Best value in the Hotel Zone: Óleo Cancún Playa and Sunscape Cancun. Best water park: Royalton Splash Riviera Cancun (14 slides).
  • Kayak's 12-month averages put our picks between about $358 and $1,192 per room per night for two, with September–October cheapest and February–March priciest.
  • Sargassum seaweed peaks June–August and is usually lightest December–March; the north Hotel Zone, Punta Cancun and Isla Mujeres' Playa Norte are the least affected beaches.
  • Budget for the Visitax (MX$293, about $16 per person, children included), paid only at visitax.gob.mx. Quintana Roo is at State Department Level 2: exercise increased caution.

Our verdict

Our verdict: where we'd book in Cancun

For a couple who wants a sure thing, we'd book Le Blanc Spa Resort Cancun. It is small (260 rooms), adults-only, a short ride from Punta Cancun's restaurants, and it has held a 4.8 Tripadvisor score across nearly 11,000 reviews. If you'd rather have a newer, bigger resort and don't need to leave it, Atelier Playa Mujeres delivers similar scores for less money on average.

Families with young kids should start with Hyatt Ziva Cancun: the Punta Cancun point gives you calmer water than almost anywhere else in the Hotel Zone, and the transfer is about 20 minutes. Big groups and families who want nonstop activities will get more from Moon Palace Cancun, as long as they accept crowds and a seaweed-prone beach.

For a lively adults-only trip, Temptation is the honest party option. On a tighter budget, Óleo Cancún Playa and Sunscape Cancun give you a Hotel Zone beach for much less than the big names. The resort we'd steer most people away from is Grand Oasis Cancun, which sits at 3.4/5 on Tripadvisor.

These picks are based on Tripadvisor and Kayak ratings and review patterns from 2026, Kayak price averages, and each area's beach and sargassum exposure. We have not stayed at these resorts for this review.

Where to stay: Cancun all-inclusive resorts by area

Cancun's all-inclusives fall into five zones, and the zone decides more about your trip than the brand does: how calm the water is, how much seaweed you'll see, how long the transfer takes and whether you can walk anywhere outside the gate.

Area Water Walkable? Transfer from CUN Resorts on our list
North Hotel Zone (Km 2–8) Calm bay water facing Isla Mujeres; narrower beaches Yes, toward downtown and the ferry piers 20–30 min Temptation
Punta Cancun (Km 8–11) Calm on the bay side, clear water on the point Yes: Party Center, Coco Bongo, malls 20–25 min Hyatt Ziva, Le Blanc, Sunscape
South Hotel Zone (Km 11–20) Open Caribbean: waves, red flags, more summer sargassum Partly (La Isla mall, lagoon restaurants) 15–25 min Secrets The Vine, Marriott, Hilton Mar Caribe, Grand Oasis, Óleo
Playa Mujeres and Costa Mujeres Wide beaches, usually calmer; seaweed varies by year No 30–45+ min Atelier, Excellence
South coast and Riviera Cancun Shallow, seaweed-prone No 10–25 min Moon Palace, Hilton Cancun, Royalton Splash

Hotel Zone north vs south

The Hotel Zone (Zona Hotelera) is the long barrier strip along Boulevard Kukulcán, and every address is a kilometer marker. North of Punta Cancun the beaches face the Bahía de Mujeres: flatter water that suits kids and weak swimmers, smaller beaches, and quick access to downtown and the Playa Tortugas and Playa Caracol piers for the Isla Mujeres ferry. From Punta Cancun south, the beach faces the open Caribbean. That is where the long postcard beaches are, including public Playa Delfines near Km 18, but it also means stronger surf, frequent red flags and more seaweed in summer. The UK government's travel advice also reminds visitors that crocodiles live in the Nichupté lagoon behind the Hotel Zone, so respect the signs.

Playa Mujeres and Costa Mujeres

North of downtown, on the mainland part of Isla Mujeres municipality, a gated resort district has grown up around a golf course: Atelier, Excellence, Finest and Beloved Playa Mujeres, plus newer Costa Mujeres properties such as Planet Hollywood Cancun. Rooms are newer and grounds are bigger, but there is no town to walk to, so you will eat every meal on property. The local tourism site puts the drive at 30–40 minutes from the airport; allow longer for resorts farther north.

South coast, near the airport

Moon Palace, Hilton Cancun and the Waldorf Astoria sit on the coast south of the Hotel Zone, close to the airport, with Royalton's Riviera Cancun complex a little farther toward Puerto Morelos. Transfers are short; the trade-off is a shoreline that catches more sargassum and has nothing walkable nearby.

Downtown and Isla Mujeres

Downtown Cancun (El Centro) has the best cheap local food but no beachfront all-inclusives. Isla Mujeres, about 13 km offshore, has a handful of smaller resorts and Playa Norte, the calmest beach in the area (see the Isla Mujeres section below). For more options down the coast, see our Riviera Maya guide.

Our take

Le Blanc is the resort we'd book for a first Cancun trip as a couple who values service above everything else. It holds 4.8 of 5 from 10,907 Tripadvisor reviews and ranks #2 of 251 Cancun hotels, a score that has held up over a very large sample. With 260 rooms it is small by Cancun standards, so pools and restaurants rarely feel like a queue, and the staff-to-guest ratio shows in review after review. The location matters too: at Km 10 you are a short ride from Punta Cancun's restaurants and nightlife and roughly 20–25 minutes from the airport.

The trade-offs are real. It is one of the most expensive all-inclusives in Mexico, with Kayak averages from about $682 a night in August to $1,192 in February. The beach faces the open Caribbean, so waves and seasonal seaweed happen, and some guests find the number of restaurants thin for the price. We think the consistency justifies the premium if you want calm and attention more than variety. To blunt the price, aim for late April, May or the first half of December.

Our take

Atelier is our pick for couples who want new-build luxury and space rather than a Hotel Zone address. It is the top-ranked hotel in Playa Mujeres on Tripadvisor (4.8 of 5 from 7,468 reviews, #1 of 11), with 593 suites, a rooftop pool, swim-out suites, the NUUP Spa and its signature María Dolores restaurant. The resort displays Forbes 2025 and AAA Four Diamond recognition. Rooms are its strongest category (4.9), and recent reviewers praise named staff, the rooftop suites and the restaurants.

The complaints are specific and worth knowing: check-in is slow at busy times, popular restaurants need reservations, late-summer seaweed can pile up on the beach, and some 'ocean view' rooms mostly overlook mangroves, so read room descriptions closely. Kayak reviewers also mention time-share style pitches on arrival. The location is the main trade-off: you are 30–40 minutes from the airport with nothing to walk to, so you will eat every meal on property. Kayak averages of about $658 in September and $971 in February make it cheaper than Le Blanc on average for a bigger, newer resort. Travelling with kids? Its family sister, Estudio Playa Mujeres, is next door.

Our take

Excellence Playa Mujeres is the original adults-only Playa Mujeres resort, and the numbers still back it: 4.8 of 5 from 29,363 Tripadvisor reviews, one of the largest review bases of any resort in the Cancun area, with cleanliness at 4.9. It has 450 suites and an Excellence Club tier with extra perks, and reviewers repeatedly praise the staff and the range of restaurants. The pool scene is livelier than Atelier's without tipping into a party.

We'd book it for couples who want a proven resort at a lower average price than Atelier or Le Blanc; Kayak averages run about $519 a night in September and $913 in February. Two cautions from fall 2026 reviews: several guests reported renovation work that took the edge off the relaxed feel, and several found the paid Club upgrade poor value. Ask the resort what is under construction for your dates, and price the standard suite before paying for Club. Its Tripadvisor rank inside Playa Mujeres (#6 of 11) says more about how strong that neighborhood is than about any weakness here.

Our take

Hyatt Ziva Cancun has the best location of any family all-inclusive in Cancun. It sits on the tip of Punta Cancun with water on more than one side, so there is usually a sheltered stretch to swim even when the open-sea beaches have red flags, and you can walk to the Punta Cancun restaurants and shops. Tripadvisor puts it at 4.6 of 5 from 15,086 reviews, with location, service and cleanliness all at 4.8. It has 547 suites, three infinity pools, a kids club and an adults-only rooftop pool in the Turquoise Tower, which lets parents take turns.

Food is the weak point: Kayak's summary of 1,858 verified ratings and several Tripadvisor reviews describe it as fine rather than memorable, and buffets and pools get crowded during school holidays. One summer 2026 reviewer found the main kids club closed for an entire stay, so get its schedule in writing. Prices are high for a family resort, with Kayak averages of about $579 a night in October and $975 in March, though World of Hyatt points can soften that. It's the family pick for under-12s who want calm water and a 20-minute transfer.

Our take

Moon Palace is less a resort than a small town: 2,036 rooms at Moon Palace Cancun plus 1,316 at The Grand next door, spread along the coast about 10 minutes from the airport. That scale is the point. Families get kids programming, golf, a long list of restaurants and enough pools that you can usually find a quiet one, and nobody needs a car. It has the biggest review base in Cancun (41,014 on Tripadvisor, 4.5 of 5); The Grand scores higher at 4.7 thanks to newer rooms and its own restaurants.

The scale also produces the complaints. 2026 reviewers describe crowding, 40-minute waits for The Grand's breakfast buffet, broken pool tiles and staff who feel stretched. The south-coast beach is the other weak spot, with seaweed and odor among the themes in Kayak's reviews. Forum regulars also warn about the 'personal vacation planner' sales meeting. We'd book Moon Palace for big families or groups who will use the activities and value a 10-minute transfer, and we'd only pay The Grand's premium for the newer rooms. Kayak's averages run about $456 a night in October and $821 in December.

Hilton Cancun Mar Caribe is the former Royal Uno, now one of Hilton's two big all-inclusives in Cancun, and it is the one to pick if you want to be in the Hotel Zone rather than by the airport. It sits at Km 17, near Playa Delfines, with 540 rooms and a Tripadvisor score of 4.6 of 5 from 3,848 reviews; location scores 4.8. Food is the pleasant surprise: an October 2026 reviewer called the buffet the best they had seen at an all-inclusive and praised the à la carte restaurants.

Operations are the weak spot. Summer 2026 reviewers reported rooms not ready at check-in, a downgrade with a promise to move the next day, and housekeeping that skipped days. The beach faces the open Caribbean, so red flags and seaweed are possible from late spring. It suits Hilton Honors families or couples who want the south Hotel Zone; confirm the room category in writing before arrival and again at check-in. Compared with Hilton Cancun by the airport, you trade a newer building for a better beach and a more central location.

Our take

Hilton Cancun is a newer, 715-room resort on the coast south of the Hotel Zone, about 20 minutes from the airport and next door to the Waldorf Astoria. It scores 4.6 of 5 from 5,738 Tripadvisor reviews, and guests like the big, clean rooms and the sense that the place is still fairly new; one August 2026 reviewer put the property at about three years old. It is an easy choice for Hilton Honors families who want a modern resort without Moon Palace's scale or crowds.

The catch is the sea. This stretch of coast collects sargassum, the beach is small, and several 2026 reviewers said the water was too full of seaweed to swim. A July 2026 reviewer also reported worn pool tiles and saw another guest cut a foot, which is the kind of maintenance issue we'd expect management to fix quickly but worth watching in recent reviews. If your family mostly uses the pools, none of that matters much and the newer rooms win. If the Caribbean is the reason you're going, pick Hyatt Ziva or the north Hotel Zone instead.

Our take

Secrets The Vine is the adults-only Hotel Zone resort we'd suggest when Le Blanc is out of budget. It is a 497-room high-rise at Km 14.5, a short ride from La Isla mall and the lagoon-side restaurants, with a Tripadvisor score of 4.6 of 5 from 19,654 reviews and Kayak averages from about $397 a night in September to $626 in February, roughly half of Le Blanc. Staff get the warmest comments, and service scores 4.7.

The recurring problems are the ones you'd expect from a busy high-rise. Reviewers describe app waitlists and waits of an hour or more for à la carte restaurants at peak dinner times, buffets that some found lukewarm, and loungers claimed early. Some also report upgrade sales at check-in and rooms showing wear, including grimy tile grout. The beach faces the open Caribbean, so expect waves and summer sargassum. Book it for a shorter adults-only trip where you'll also eat out in the Hotel Zone, take the Preferred Club tier only if it's discounted, and skip it if a slow dinner queue would spoil your night.

Our take

The former CasaMagna Marriott now runs as an all-inclusive, and it is the straightforward choice for Marriott Bonvoy members who want the Hotel Zone. It has 450 rooms in the central Hotel Zone, with Tripadvisor at 4.5 of 5 from 5,745 reviews and its best marks for cleanliness (4.7) and service (4.6). Reviewers describe it as clean and relaxed rather than flashy, which suits couples and families who don't want a party.

The building is older than the all-inclusive conversion, and rooms score lower (4.4), so expect a refreshed hotel rather than a new resort. Small service gaps show up in 2026 reviews, from a crib that took close to an hour to arrive late at night to a lack of plant-based milk at breakfast. Families with babies, or anyone with dietary needs, should request what they need in writing before arrival. We'd book it when a Bonvoy redemption or a cash rate clearly undercuts Hyatt Ziva or Hilton Cancun Mar Caribe for the same dates. At similar prices, we'd lean to those two for better food and beach position.

Our take

Óleo Cancún Playa is a smaller, 168-room beachfront hotel near the southern end of the Hotel Zone, run by Atelier de Hoteles, the same group behind Atelier Playa Mujeres. It works a little differently from the big resorts: the all-inclusive plan is sold as an option, so you can choose it or eat out. Tripadvisor gives it 4.5 of 5 from 3,608 reviews, with service (4.7) the standout, and it has a kids club for families.

The Km 19.5 location is quieter than the central strip, and an October 2026 reviewer singled out a beach free of sargassum during their stay. Reviews are more polarized than the overall score suggests, though: a few 2026 guests had stays bad enough to say they would not return, so we'd read the latest month of reviews before booking and choose a refundable rate. We like it for value-minded families and couples who want a beachfront Hotel Zone base without a 500-room tower. Make sure the rate you book includes the all-inclusive plan if that's what you want, and expect taxis to reach Punta Cancun nightlife.

Our take

Sunscape Cancun is the former Panama Jack Resorts Cancun, now under Hyatt's Sunscape brand, and it is the friendlier-priced way to stay close to Punta Cancun. Tripadvisor shows 4.4 of 5 from 18,264 reviews and ranks it #25 of 251 in Cancun, with location (4.7) and cleanliness (4.6) well above rooms (4.3). Staff draw the warmest comments in 2026 reviews.

Set expectations on the room: even upgraded 'beachfront' categories are standard hotel rooms rather than suites, according to a June 2026 reviewer. Expect sales staff pitching vacation packages around the lobby too; a firm no works. With 458 rooms and a central address, it is practical for families and groups who want a short cab, or a longer walk, to the Punta Cancun restaurants and shops, and a 20-minute airport run. It's a good fit for families and friends on a mid-range budget who care more about location and friendly service than room size; compare its rate with Hyatt Ziva during sales, since the more polished resort is only a few minutes away.

Our take

Temptation is an adult-themed party resort, and it is upfront about it: theme nights, a DJ-driven pool scene and a crowd that comes to socialize, with marketing that promises fun and sexiness that never stop. If that is the trip you want, it delivers. Tripadvisor rates it 4.5 of 5 from 8,212 reviews, and staff and entertainment are the most praised features. If it isn't the trip you want, nothing else about the resort will win you over.

The 428 rooms are the weakness (rooms 4.3, sleep quality 4.2): 2026 reviewers call them dated and say the bass from late theme parties carries. A few longtime guests feel prices are rising faster than the experience. The north Hotel Zone location at Km 3.5 is handy for downtown and the Playa Tortugas ferry to Isla Mujeres, and the bay water here is calmer than in the south. Kayak averages run about $375 a night in August and $527 in February, and premium liquor costs extra. It works for a long weekend with friends or a couple who wants a lively scene, not for a restful honeymoon.

Our take

Royalton Splash Riviera Cancun is built around the thing kids care about most: a water park with 14 slides, two lazy rivers and splash zones, which the resort calls one of the largest on-site water parks in the Caribbean. It is a big resort, with 1,005 suites, 12 restaurants and 10 bars, part of Marriott's Autograph Collection and about 15–25 minutes south of the airport.

Kayak rates it 7.8 of 10 from 194 reviews, and that middling score reflects what guests report. The water park, activities and family atmosphere get praise; service, check-in, dining quality and room cleanliness draw complaints, including some food-poisoning claims. Prices are reasonable for what's on site, with Kayak averages around $358 a night in September and $698 in December, and recent bookings as low as $273. We'd book it for families with school-age kids who will spend most days on the slides, and we'd buy travel insurance and pack basic stomach medicine. Couples, and families who care most about food or a great beach, should look at Hyatt Ziva or Moon Palace instead.

Our take

Grand Oasis Cancun is the big, cheap, loud option, and its scores show the trade: 3.4 of 5 from 17,814 Tripadvisor reviews and a rank of #190 of 251 in Cancun. Rooms (3.2) and service (3.2) are the lowest-rated categories of any resort on our list. It earns a place here because so many travelers search for it and because, for one kind of trip, it still works: a young group that wants the pyramid-lobby party scene, big pools, a long south Hotel Zone beach and a low price, and will spend its nights out in Punta Cancun anyway. Some staff still get warm praise in recent reviews.

But October 2026 reviewers describe deeply disappointing stays, and returning guests say it has slipped compared with earlier years. We'd only book it at a clear discount to Sunscape or Óleo, with free cancellation, and we'd steer couples and families elsewhere. If you want a lively, social budget trip with fewer risks, Temptation (adults only) or Sunscape (all ages) are better bets.

Cancun all-inclusive resorts compared (Tripadvisor scores as of October 2026)

Pros & cons

Cancun for an all-inclusive: why go, why not

Reasons to go

  • A huge choice of all-inclusives at every budget, from $350 to $1,000+ a night
  • Roughly 48 U.S. cities with nonstop flights; about 4 hours from New York
  • Short transfers: the airport is less than 10 km from the main Hotel Zone
  • Calm-water options on the north Hotel Zone, Punta Cancun and Isla Mujeres
  • Easy day trips to Isla Mujeres, cenotes and Mayan sites
  • September–October rates run far below peak season

Reasons to think twice

  • Sargassum seaweed June–August, with record levels in 2026
  • South Hotel Zone surf and red flags make swimming unreliable
  • Spring break and holiday crowds push February–March prices up
  • State Dept Level 2 for Quintana Roo; care needed downtown after dark
  • Taxi disputes, Visitax and time-share pitches add hassle
  • The biggest resorts can feel crowded and understaffed

Best adults-only all-inclusive resorts in Cancun

Cancun has more adults-only all-inclusives than any one list can hold, but they sort into three types, and booking the wrong type is the most common complaint we see in reviews.

Quiet luxury: Le Blanc, Atelier, Excellence

These three hold the highest guest scores in the Cancun area: Le Blanc Spa Resort (4.8 from 10,907 Tripadvisor reviews), Atelier Playa Mujeres (4.8 from 7,468) and Excellence Playa Mujeres (4.8 from 29,363). Le Blanc is the one in the Hotel Zone, close to restaurants and nightlife; the other two are in Playa Mujeres, with bigger grounds and more restaurants but nothing outside the gate. Expect to pay roughly $520–$1,190 a night depending on resort and month, based on Kayak's averages.

Mid-range adults-only

Secrets The Vine (4.6, 19,654 reviews) is the adults-only Hotel Zone high-rise we'd book when Le Blanc is out of reach, with Kayak averages of about $397–$626 a night. Other well-reviewed options we did not profile in full: Hyatt Zilara Cancun (4.7 from 15,075 reviews), Riu Palace Las Americas at Punta Cancun (4.5 from 5,580), Royalton CHIC Cancun (4.5 from 10,380) and, in Playa Mujeres, Beloved Playa Mujeres and TRS Coral, which score 8.9 and 8.7 out of 10 on Kayak.

Party: Temptation

Temptation Cancun Resort is adults-only too, but it is built around theme nights, a DJ pool and a social crowd. Book it for that scene, not for rest. Couples who end up there by accident write the angriest reviews.

Our adults-only all-inclusive guide compares these with the best options elsewhere in Mexico and the Caribbean, and our couples and honeymoon guide covers romance packages.

Best all-inclusive family resorts in Cancun

For families, the deciding questions are water, transfer time and how much the kids club actually runs.

  • Calm water and a short transfer: Hyatt Ziva Cancun sits on the Punta Cancun point, so there is usually a sheltered stretch to swim even when the open-sea side has red flags. It has a kids club and an adults-only rooftop pool so parents can take turns. One summer 2026 reviewer found the main kids club closed for an entire six-night stay, so confirm opening days in writing.
  • Most activities: Moon Palace Cancun and The Grand next door are enormous (2,036 and 1,316 rooms on Tripadvisor), with kids programming, golf and many restaurants, about 10 minutes from the airport. Expect crowds in school holidays.
  • Water slides: Royalton Splash Riviera Cancun has 14 slides, two lazy rivers and a kids club for ages 4–12, according to its official page. Its guest scores are middling, so it is a slides-first choice.
  • Points families: Hilton Cancun (by the airport), Hilton Cancun Mar Caribe (Km 17) and Marriott Cancun All-Inclusive (Km 14.5) let you earn or redeem hotel points.
  • Smaller and cheaper: Óleo Cancún Playa (168 rooms, kids club) and Sunscape Cancun (458 rooms, central) cost less than the big brands.

Two more worth a look: Estudio Playa Mujeres, Atelier's family-only sister resort with a kids club for children up to 15, and Hard Rock Hotel Cancun at Km 14.5, which has a Roxity Kids Club and is promoting refreshed rooms for winter 2026–27 on its website. Our family all-inclusive guide compares these with family resorts across the region.

Luxury all-inclusive resorts in Cancun: what $700+ a night buys

At the top of the market you are paying for three things: fewer guests per staff member, better rooms and food that does not feel mass-produced. Cancun's luxury all-inclusives deliver those in different ways.

  • Le Blanc Spa Resort Cancun focuses on service. It is adults-only with 260 rooms, and Kayak averages run from about $682 a night in August to $1,192 in February. Value is its lowest-rated category on review sites, which is the price of the room rate, not a quality problem.
  • Atelier Playa Mujeres is newer and bigger: 593 suites, the NUUP Spa, a rooftop pool and swim-out suites, plus Forbes 2025 and AAA Four Diamond recognition shown on its official site. Kayak averages are about $658–$971.
  • Excellence Playa Mujeres with the Excellence Club tier sits a notch below on price.
  • The Grand at Moon Palace (4.7 on Tripadvisor) is the family-friendly luxury option with newer rooms than the main Moon Palace.

Newer high-end options are also scoring well: Moon Palace Nizuc (4.9 from 725 Tripadvisor reviews) and the Waldorf Astoria Riviera Maya, now sold as an all-inclusive experience (4.8 from 1,170 reviews), both near the airport. Finest Playa Mujeres, the family-friendly Excellence Collection resort next to Excellence, shows 9.4 out of 10 on Kayak from a small sample.

Where luxury money is wasted: paying a big Club or butler upgrade at a resort whose base rooms already score well. Several 2026 reviewers at Excellence Playa Mujeres said the Club upgrade was not worth the extra. Our luxury all-inclusive guide covers the best of Mexico and the Caribbean.

Best time to go and Cancun sargassum season

December through April is the best time for most travelers: it is the driest stretch of the year, the sea is at its clearest, and sargassum seaweed is usually light. The trade-off is price. Kayak's data shows March as the most expensive month for Cancun hotels (about $574 a night on average across all hotels) and September the cheapest (about $310).

Weather

The climate table on Wikipedia, built on Mexico's national weather service (SMN) data from the airport station, shows average highs from 83°F in January to 94°F in August, with rain climbing from about 1.5 inches in April to 9.5 inches in October. The airport sits inland, so beach afternoons usually feel a few degrees cooler with the sea breeze. The Atlantic hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30 and peaks around September 10; most storms fall between mid-August and mid-October.

Sargassum month by month

Based on the seasonal calendar at How Is The Sargassum:

  • December–February: usually the clearest months.
  • March–April: arrivals start, mostly south of Cancun.
  • May–August: builds in May, peaks in June and July, still heavy in August.
  • September–November: declining, unpredictable through mid-September, often clean again by mid-October.

2026 has been a heavy year. Riviera Maya News reported in February that the state expected a record season and planned more than 7,500 meters of new floating barriers; June then set an all-time Caribbean record, according to How Is The Sargassum's tracking. By early October, offshore volumes near the Mexican Caribbean had fallen to under a quarter of their early-September level.

Which beaches get the least seaweed

The north Hotel Zone and Punta Cancun face north, away from the current, and usually see less build-up than the south Hotel Zone; Isla Mujeres' Playa Norte is the most reliable of all. Early-2026 cleanup tallies show the pattern: Benito Juárez, the municipality that includes the Hotel Zone, had removed 77 tons by late February, against 414 tons in Isla Mujeres municipality (which includes the Playa Mujeres mainland coast) and 1,195 in Playa del Carmen.

Isla Mujeres and Playa Mujeres all-inclusive resorts: which is which?

Many searches for 'Isla Mujeres all inclusive resorts' are really about Playa Mujeres, the resort district on the mainland north of Cancun that belongs to Isla Mujeres municipality. That is where Atelier, Excellence, Finest, Beloved and the Costa Mujeres resorts are, reached by road in 30–45 minutes.

Isla Mujeres itself is a small island, about 7 km long and 13 km off the coast according to Wikipedia, reached by ferry from Puerto Juárez, Gran Puerto or the Hotel Zone piers at Playa Tortugas and Playa Caracol. Getting around means golf carts, taxis and scooters. The island's resorts are smaller and fewer than on the mainland, and many island hotels are room-only, so check that meals and drinks are actually included before you book.

Why stay on the island: Playa Norte is the calmest, most seaweed-resistant beach in the Cancun area, the town is walkable and the pace is slower. Why not: you add a ferry to every airport transfer and lose the big-resort variety. For most travelers, the better plan is a Hotel Zone or Playa Mujeres resort plus a day trip; UltraMar also sells a combined Isla Mujeres and Cozumel island-hopper ticket ($41 per adult when we checked). See our Cozumel guide if you'd rather base yourself on an island.

What's new in Cancun for 2026: rebrands, openings and refreshes

Cancun's hotel names change faster than most guidebooks. Changes that affect what you book, as shown on Tripadvisor and Kayak listings in October 2026:

  • Big-brand conversions: Hilton Cancun Mar Caribe is the former Royal Uno, and Marriott Cancun, An All-Inclusive Resort is the former CasaMagna Marriott. Both now earn hotel points.
  • Hyatt rebrands: Sunscape Cancun is the former Panama Jack Resorts Cancun, and the former Dreams Vista Cancun now trades as Hyatt Vivid Cancun.
  • New luxury near the airport: Moon Palace Nizuc (4.9 from 725 Tripadvisor reviews) and the Waldorf Astoria Riviera Maya, now sold as an all-inclusive experience.
  • New Riu builds: Hotel Riu Palace Kukulkan and Hotel Riu Ventura have joined the Riu cluster around Punta Cancun.
  • Coming soon: Royalton Vessence Cancun, a 376-suite Hotel Zone resort, was taking pre-opening bookings on its official page in October 2026 without a confirmed opening date.
  • Refreshes in progress: Hard Rock Hotel Cancun is promoting newly refreshed rooms for winter 2026–27, and several September 2026 Excellence Playa Mujeres reviewers reported renovation work around the resort.
  • Airport: Cancun's Terminal 4 expansion and the reopening of Terminal 1 are planned for 2026, according to Wikipedia's airport page.

Hyatt's brand moves are covered in more detail in our Hyatt Inclusive Collection guide, and the Hilton and Marriott conversions in our resort brands guide.

Cancun all-inclusive packages, prices and deals

Kayak's 12-month price data gives the clearest picture of what Cancun all-inclusives really cost. These are average nightly rates per room for two people, including taxes and fees, checked in October 2026:

Resort Cheapest month (avg) Priciest month (avg)
Le Blanc Spa Resort August, ~$682 February, ~$1,192
Hyatt Ziva Cancun October, ~$579 March, ~$975
Atelier Playa Mujeres September, ~$658 February, ~$971
Excellence Playa Mujeres September, ~$519 February, ~$913
Moon Palace Cancun October, ~$456 December, ~$821
Royalton Splash Riviera Cancun September, ~$358 December, ~$698
Secrets The Vine September, ~$397 February, ~$626
Temptation Cancun August, ~$375 February, ~$527

Two patterns stand out. First, the same resort can cost 60–75% more in February or March than in September or October. Second, the gap between the cheapest and priciest adults-only resorts is huge: Temptation in August averages less than a third of Le Blanc in February.

Flights and packages

Kayak's flight data shows an average US–Cancun round trip of $529 over the past year, with the cheapest typical fares between $401 and $701. Package deals with airfare can beat booking separately because tour operators buy hotel rooms in bulk, especially at big chains like Moon Palace, Royalton and the Hyatt brands. Price both ways: add two round-trip fares to the resort's direct rate and compare. Check whether the package includes transfers, gratuities and resort credits, and read the cancellation terms. Our all-inclusive deals guide covers when sales usually run, and our cheap all-inclusives guide lists lower-cost options.

Tipping

Regulars on the Tripadvisor Cancun forum give consistent advice: tip in cash, preferably pesos, and tip daily rather than at the end. As a starting point, we'd budget 20–50 pesos per bar round, 100–200 pesos a day for housekeeping, 100–200 pesos per couple at à la carte dinners and something for your transfer driver. Some packages bundle gratuities, so check yours.

Sales pitches and resort credits

Time-share and vacation-club pitches are part of the Cancun experience. Kayak and Tripadvisor reviewers mention them at Atelier, Sunscape and Secrets The Vine, and forum regulars warn about Moon Palace's 'personal vacation planner' meeting. Resort credits offered for attending are rarely worth a half-day of your trip; a polite, firm no works.

Is Cancun safe? Safety, Visitax and entry rules

Safety

The U.S. State Department's Mexico travel advisory places Quintana Roo, the state that includes Cancun, Tulum and Cozumel, at Level 2: exercise increased caution, because of crime. There are no travel restrictions for U.S. government employees there, but staff are told to be extra alert after dark in downtown Cancun, Tulum and Playa del Carmen and to stay on well-lit pedestrian streets and in tourist zones.

The UK government's advice adds detail: rival gangs have clashed in and around Cancun, and while tourists are not targeted, several shootings since 2021 have affected them. It also warns about drink spiking, assaults involving unlicensed taxi drivers, and licensed taxi drivers blocking roads and pulling passengers out of Uber cars near Cancun hotels. Practical steps: use your resort's transport or a pre-booked transfer, take taxis from authorized ranks, keep drinks in sight, and follow beach flags, since some beaches are unpatrolled.

Entry: passport and FMM

U.S. citizens need a valid passport book to fly to Mexico (a passport card is not accepted for flights) and do not need a visa for tourist stays. At Cancun airport, immigration now issues the tourist permit (FMM) digitally and gives you a receipt with a QR code; keep it until you leave.

Visitax

Quintana Roo charges a tourist tax, the Visitax, to every foreign visitor, including children and infants, according to the official Visitax site. The 2026 rate is MX$293 per person (about $16), pegged to Mexico's UMA index. Pay it online before departure, keep each traveler's QR code on your phone, and use only the official portal: copycat sites charge more, and an October 2026 forum thread collected reports of travelers being overcharged at the airport.

Getting there: flights and airport transfer times

Cancun International Airport (CUN) is the second-busiest airport in Mexico and its busiest for international passengers, with 29.3 million passengers in 2025, according to Wikipedia. U.S. airlines use Terminal 3 (American, Delta, United and others) and Terminal 4 (including Southwest, Frontier, JetBlue and Sun Country), and roughly 48 U.S. cities have nonstop service, at least seasonally. Nonstops take about 4 hours from New York JFK and 4.5 hours from Los Angeles, per Kayak.

Transfer times

Resort area Private transfer
Moon Palace About 10 minutes
Hilton Cancun, Royalton Splash 15–25 minutes
South and central Hotel Zone 15–25 minutes
North Hotel Zone, Punta Cancun 20–30 minutes
Playa Mujeres 30–45 minutes
Costa Mujeres (farther north) 40–55 minutes

The airport sits less than 10 km from the main Hotel Zone, so most transfers are short. Shared shuttles that stop at several hotels can stretch any trip to 90 minutes or more, which is why we'd pay for a private transfer on a short stay. Some Playa Mujeres resorts include transfers; one Atelier reviewer had a free shuttle cancel without notice, so get a confirmation and the operator's phone number.

Flying into Tulum's newer airport (TQO) makes sense only if you are staying south of Playa del Carmen; for anything around Cancun, CUN is far closer. Our Tulum guide explains when TQO is worth it.

Mistakes to avoid when booking a Cancun all-inclusive

  1. Booking the brand, not the beach. A south Hotel Zone or airport-coast resort can be excellent and still have red-flag surf or summer seaweed. Check which way the beach faces.
  2. Assuming 'adults-only' means quiet. Temptation is adults-only and loud by design. Le Blanc, Atelier and Excellence are the quiet ones.
  3. Ignoring transfer time on short trips. On a three-night stay, a 45-minute Playa Mujeres transfer each way eats into your beach time. Pick the Hotel Zone or the airport coast.
  4. Paying for the wrong upgrade. Club and butler tiers can be great, but 2026 reviewers at several resorts said they were not worth the extra. Price the base room first.
  5. Skipping the most recent reviews. Resorts change fast. Read the last 30 days on Tripadvisor for renovation, closures and service problems.
  6. Paying the Visitax on the wrong site. Use visitax.gob.mx only, and pay before you fly.
  7. Taking an airport taxi without a booking. Pre-book a private transfer and confirm the pickup point.
  8. Forgetting hurricane and seaweed season in the price. September and October are cheap for a reason. Buy travel insurance and choose refundable rates.
  9. Overpaying for size. Moon Palace's scale suits big families; couples often get a better trip for less at a smaller resort.

If you are still choosing between Mexican destinations, our Mexico all-inclusive hub compares Cancun with Riviera Maya, Tulum, Los Cabos and Puerto Vallarta.

What travel-forum regulars say

Travel-forum consensus

This summary draws on current threads in the Tripadvisor Cancun forum, where regulars answer first-timers every day. The advice is consistent. Choose the area before the resort: a quiet Hotel Zone resort is hard to find, which is why quiet-seekers often end up in Playa Mujeres. If you stay at Moon Palace or Playa Mujeres, plan one or two all-day outings to the Hotel Zone rather than nightly trips; regulars use the Palace shuttle, city buses and taxis. Tip daily in cash, and pesos are preferred over dollars. Pay the Visitax online in advance, after fresh reports of overcharging at the airport. And expect sales pitches: Moon Palace's 'personal vacation planner' meeting is a running topic.

Tripadvisor forumMixed

A first-timer booked eight nights at Moon Palace asked whether to commute to the Hotel Zone party strip. Regulars said Moon has its own shows and clubs, suggested one or two all-day outings using the Palace shuttle and taxis, and said The Grand's premium isn't necessary for adults.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Cancun for an all-inclusive?

For most first-timers we'd pick Punta Cancun or the stretch just south of it (Km 8–11): sheltered water options, the shortest walk to restaurants and nightlife, and a 20–25 minute transfer. Choose Playa Mujeres for newer, quieter resorts if you don't mind a 30–45 minute transfer and nothing walkable. The south coast near the airport (Moon Palace, Hilton Cancun) has the shortest transfers but more seaweed. The north Hotel Zone (Km 2–8) has the calmest bay water but narrower beaches.

What are the best adults-only all-inclusive resorts in Cancun?

Le Blanc Spa Resort Cancun (4.8 of 5 on Tripadvisor, 260 rooms, Hotel Zone) is our top pick for service. Atelier Playa Mujeres (4.8, 593 suites) is the best newer luxury option, and Excellence Playa Mujeres (4.8 from 29,363 reviews) is the proven all-rounder. On a lower budget, Secrets The Vine averages about $397–$626 a night on Kayak. Temptation Cancun is adults-only too, but it is a party resort. Our adults-only guide has more.

What is the best family all-inclusive resort in Cancun?

Hyatt Ziva Cancun is our pick for families with young kids because the Punta Cancun point offers calmer water, there's a kids club and the transfer is about 20 minutes. Moon Palace Cancun suits big families and groups who want maximum activities and a 10-minute transfer, though its beach gets seaweed. Royalton Splash Riviera Cancun wins for water slides (14 of them) on a moderate budget. Whichever you choose, confirm the kids club schedule for your dates.

When is sargassum season in Cancun?

Sargassum usually starts arriving in April, builds through May, peaks June–August and tapers in September and October; December through February are normally the clearest months. 2026 was heavy, with record Caribbean levels in June, though offshore volumes near the Mexican Caribbean had dropped to under a quarter of their early-September level by early October. The north Hotel Zone, Punta Cancun and Isla Mujeres' Playa Norte face away from the current and are usually least affected.

Is Cancun safe for tourists in 2026?

The U.S. State Department rates Quintana Roo, the state that includes Cancun, at Level 2 (exercise increased caution) because of crime, and tells U.S. government staff to be extra alert after dark in downtown Cancun, Tulum and Playa del Carmen. Violence is mostly between gangs, though the UK government notes shootings since 2021 have affected tourists. The practical risks for resort guests are drink spiking, unlicensed taxis and taxi disputes. Use pre-booked transport and keep your drink in sight.

Do I need to pay the Visitax, and what is the FMM?

Yes. Quintana Roo's Visitax applies to every foreign visitor, including children and infants; the 2026 rate is MX$293 (about $16) per person. Pay only at visitax.gob.mx and keep each traveler's QR code, since the airport checks them. The FMM is Mexico's tourist permit: at Cancun airport immigration it is generated digitally with a QR receipt, so there is no paper form, but keep the receipt until you leave. U.S. citizens need a passport book, not a card, to fly.

How far are Cancun all-inclusive resorts from the airport?

Cancun airport sits less than 10 km from the main Hotel Zone, so private transfers to most Hotel Zone resorts take 15–30 minutes. Moon Palace is about 10 minutes away, Hilton Cancun about 20 and Royalton Splash Riviera Cancun 15–25. Playa Mujeres resorts such as Atelier and Excellence take 30–45 minutes, longer for Costa Mujeres properties farther north. Shared shuttles that stop at several hotels can stretch any of these to 90 minutes, so a private transfer is worth it on short trips.

Are Cancun all-inclusive resort packages with airfare a good deal?

Sometimes. Packages can beat booking separately because tour operators buy rooms in bulk, especially at big chains like Moon Palace, Royalton and the Hyatt brands. Price both ways: Kayak's US–Cancun average is about $529 round trip, so add two fares to the resort's direct rate and compare. What is the cheapest time to book a Cancun all-inclusive?

September and October are the cheapest months in Kayak's 12-month data: Hyatt Ziva averages about $579 a night in October versus $975 in March, and Moon Palace about $456 in October versus $821 in December. Those months are also peak hurricane season and the end of sargassum season, so buy travel insurance and book refundable rates. For a better balance of price and weather, look at late April, May and the first half of December.

How much should I tip at a Cancun all-inclusive?

Tips are not required at most all-inclusives, but they are expected and appreciated. Forum regulars say cash is king, pesos are preferred over dollars and it's best to tip daily. As a starting point, budget 20–50 pesos per bar round, 100–200 pesos a day for housekeeping and 100–200 pesos per couple at à la carte dinners, plus a tip for your transfer driver. Some packages bundle gratuities, so check yours before you go.
