Quick answer
- The best Tulum all-inclusive resorts for couples are Secrets Tulum (adults-only, 8.7/10 on Kayak, about 1.2 miles from town) and Secrets Akumal (adults-only, 9.4/10, 434 rooms, about 25 minutes north on Akumal's turtle coast).
- Best for families: Dreams Tulum (kids club for ages 3–12, teens club, six-slide water playground, about 10 minutes north of town) or Hilton Tulum Riviera Maya for Hilton Honors members.
- Best value: Bahia Principe Grand Tulum in Akumal (978 rooms, Kayak averages about $240–$451 a night) and Catalonia Royal Tulum, an adults-only resort on calm Xpu-Ha beach averaging about $251–$461.
- Honest geography: only a few all-inclusives are in Tulum itself. Dreams is about 5 miles north of town, Hilton about 13, and Akumal, Xpu-Ha and Puerto Aventuras are 25–35 minutes up Highway 307.
- Fly into Tulum's airport (TQO) if your airline serves it (American, Delta and United fly from U.S. hubs) or into Cancun (CUN) for far more flights, about 90 minutes north by road.
- Best months are December to April. Sargassum peaks June–August, and Tulum's east-facing beaches are exposed to it, so cenotes are the backup plan.
Our verdict
Our verdict: which Tulum all-inclusive to book
If you want to be in Tulum, not just near it, book Secrets Tulum. It's the best-reviewed mainstream adults-only all-inclusive within a few minutes of town and the ruins, and its beach club solves the fact that the main resort is inland.
If the beach matters more than the address, drive 25 minutes north to Secrets Akumal, the highest-rated resort on our list (9.4 on Kayak), where guests snorkel near sea turtles. On a tighter budget, Catalonia Royal Tulum gives you an adults-only stay on calm Xpu-Ha beach for roughly half the price.
Families should start with Dreams Tulum, 10 minutes from town with strong kids and teens clubs and the lowest prices of the brand-name family resorts, or Hilton Tulum Riviera Maya if you collect Hilton points and want quieter pools. Bahia Principe Grand Tulum is the budget family pick.
We'd skip the idea of an all-inclusive on Tulum's beach road unless you want that scene above all: the one option there, Kore Tulum, gets complaints about food and beach access. These picks are based on Kayak and Tripadvisor ratings, 2026 review themes, Kayak's monthly price data and each resort's distance from town; we have not stayed at these resorts for this review.

Tulum all-inclusive resorts: where they actually are
Searches for Tulum all-inclusive resorts usually picture a beach hotel next to the ruins. That hotel mostly doesn't exist. Tulum's beachfront is a strip of small boutique hotels, and the big all-inclusives are spread along Highway 307 to the north. Here is where each resort on our list sits, with Kayak's listed distance to central Tulum where it gives one:
| Area | Resorts on our list | Distance from Tulum town | What it's like |
|---|---|---|---|
| Aldea Zama (inland, by town) | Secrets Tulum | About 1.2 miles | Close to restaurants and ruins; beach via beach club |
| Tulum beach road | Kore Tulum | About 2.2 miles | Boho beach-road strip; Kore itself has no direct beach access |
| North on Hwy 307 (Tankah area) | Dreams Tulum | About 5.1 miles | Real beach, 10 minutes from town |
| North on Hwy 307 (Chemuyil area) | Hilton Tulum Riviera Maya | About 13 miles | Quiet coast, about 20 minutes from town |
| Akumal | Secrets Akumal, Bahia Principe complex | About 20–25 minutes by car | Turtle bay, calmer water, big resorts |
| Puerto Aventuras | UNICO 20°N 87°W | About 30 minutes | Marina town; Riviera Maya more than Tulum |
| Xpu-Ha | Catalonia Royal Tulum | About 35 minutes | One of the calmest, clearest beaches on this coast |
The practical rule: the farther north you go, the better the beach and the bigger the resort, but the more you'll rely on taxis or a driver to see Tulum. If the ruins, cenotes and Tulum's restaurant scene are why you're going, stay in or near town. If you mostly want a beach and pool with a day trip or two, Akumal and Xpu-Ha usually give you more for the money.
All of these resorts are part of the wider coast between Cancun and Tulum covered in our Riviera Maya guide, which includes more Playa del Carmen options.

1Best adults-only overall
Secrets Akumal Riviera Maya
Akumal, about 25 minutes north of Tulum
$490–$1,119 per night for two · Kayak 12-month average nightly rates (cheapest August, priciest February), seen Oct 2026
Our take
Secrets Akumal is the highest-rated resort on our Tulum list, with 9.4 out of 10 from 764 Kayak reviews, and the reason is mostly the water. It sits on the Akumal coast, about 25 minutes north of Tulum, and reviewers consistently praise the beach, the clean pools, the staff and snorkeling near sea turtles. It's an adults-only resort with 434 rooms, big enough for variety without feeling like a small city.
The complaints are about money and dinner. Guests describe a high-pressure time-share presentation tied to a resort credit, disappointing $200 'premium preferred' vouchers, dinners that don't meet high-end expectations, mosquitoes and hard-to-get reservations. It's also expensive in peak season, with Kayak averages from about $490 a night in August to $1,119 in February. We'd book it for couples who put beach and snorkeling ahead of food and are prepared to say a firm no at the sales desk. If you want Tulum's town life, budget for a 25-minute taxi each way.
Skip it if You want to walk to Tulum's restaurants, or food is the highlight of your trip.

What guests say
Kayak's review summary says guests praise the beach and the clean pool, enjoy snorkeling near sea turtles, and frequently compliment the staff and service.
Critical reviewers mention $200 'premium preferred' vouchers that disappointed, mediocre dinners, a high-pressure time-share presentation tied to a credit, mosquitoes and difficulty getting dinner reservations.
2Best in Tulum itself (adults-only)
Secrets Tulum Resort & Beach Club
Aldea Zama, about 1.2 miles from central Tulum
$365–$550 per night for two · Kayak 12-month averages per room/night for two: July ~$363, January ~$547; recent bookings $221–$467; checked Oct 2026
Our take
Secrets Tulum is the all-inclusive to book if you want to actually be in Tulum. The main resort sits inland in Aldea Zama, about 1.2 miles from the center of town and 2 miles from the ruins, so dinners in town and early visits to the ruins are a short taxi ride rather than a highway trip. It is adults-only and, as the name says, comes with a beach club rather than its own beachfront; Casa Zamna, a 21-suite section by the ocean in the Hotel Zone, has its own pool and restaurant for guests booked there.
Kayak rates it 8.7 out of 10 from 209 reviews, and the Hyatt Inclusive Collection site shows a 4.0 Tripadvisor score. Reviewers praise the staff and name the beach club as a favorite spot. The complaints are familiar: a vacation-club pitch that one guest says ran three hours, a three-hour wait for the sushi restaurant, and an isolated pest report. Kayak averages run from about $363 a night in July to $547 in January. It's the pick for couples who want Tulum's restaurants and ruins close by and don't need to step out of their room onto sand.
Skip it if Walking straight from your room onto the beach is the point of your trip; Secrets Akumal or Catalonia Royal Tulum are beachfront.

What guests say
Recent reviewers single out how accommodating the staff are, and several name the beach club as their favorite part of the stay.
Even a five-star reviewer complained that a promised two-hour sales presentation stretched to about three hours of pressure to buy a package costing around $30,000.
Another guest waited about three hours to get into the sushi restaurant and missed the evening show as a result.
3Best service-first adults-only
UNICO 20°87° Hotel Riviera Maya
Puerto Aventuras, about 30 minutes north of Tulum
$480–$747 per night for two · Kayak 12-month average nightly rates (cheapest September, priciest February), seen Oct 2026
Our take
UNICO 20°N 87°W is the most service-focused adults-only resort within reach of Tulum, but it is in Puerto Aventuras, about 30 minutes north, so think of it as a Riviera Maya resort with Tulum day trips. Kayak rates it 8.8 out of 10 from 373 reviews, and guests praise attentive staff, cleanliness, spacious rooms, the pools, the fitness center and the restaurants, breakfast included.
The beach is the honest weak spot: at least one reviewer calls it 'not great', so treat UNICO as a pool-and-service resort rather than a beach resort. Two other complaints recur in Kayak's review themes: aggressive sales presentations from an on-site company, and pool music when you want quiet. Prices sit between the mid-range and the luxury tier, with Kayak averages of about $480 a night in September and $747 in February. It suits couples who value service and rooms above all and plan to hire a driver for Tulum, Akumal and the cenotes. We'd skip it if a swimmable beach outside your door is the priority.
Skip it if A great beach is your top priority, or you want to be in Tulum town most evenings.
Our category scores

4Best adults-only value
Catalonia Royal Tulum
Xpu-Ha, about 35 minutes north of Tulum
$250–$460 per night for two · Kayak 12-month averages per room/night for two: June ~$251, January ~$461; checked Oct 2026
Our take
Catalonia Royal Tulum is the best-value adults-only all-inclusive near Tulum, as long as you're fine with the location: it's in Xpu-Ha, about 35 minutes north of Tulum town and 30 minutes south of Playa del Carmen. That location is also its strength. Xpu-Ha is one of the calmest, clearest beaches on this coast, and Kayak reviewers rate the beach and water highly, along with friendly service, cleanliness and a quiet adults-only atmosphere.
Kayak scores it 8.7 out of 10 from 1,245 reviews, with averages from about $251 a night in June to $461 in January, roughly half the price of Secrets Akumal. Food is the trade-off: reviewers call it mixed to subpar, room service is limited, and some rooms need renovation. Seaweed and jungle noise also come up. We'd book it for couples who want a beautiful beach and a calm resort at a fair price and don't mind ordinary buffets, and we'd skip it for foodies or anyone who wants to spend evenings in Tulum.
Skip it if Food is a priority, or you plan to spend most evenings in Tulum town.
Our category scores

5Best for Hilton points and quiet pools
Hilton Tulum Riviera Maya All-Inclusive Resort
Highway 307, about 13 miles (20 minutes) north of Tulum
$360–$540 per night for two · Kayak 12-month averages per room/night for two: October ~$361, March ~$541; checked Oct 2026
Our take
Hilton Tulum Riviera Maya is a big-brand resort about 13 miles, or roughly 20 minutes, north of Tulum on Highway 307, set on a quiet stretch of coast. It's the Tulum-area choice for Hilton Honors members and for families who want a newer resort with room to spread out. Kayak reviewers describe it as clean, well kept and picturesque, with multiple pools that are rarely crowded, good food and attentive staff, and Tripadvisor reviewers single out the kids club and the spa. Tripadvisor rates it 4.3 of 5 and Kayak 8.2 of 10 from 206 reviews.
The weak spots are the beach, which is rocky in places, and dining logistics. Families with small children point out that the buffet runs only at breakfast and the earliest dinner reservations are at 6 p.m., and some guests found the reservation system messy. Others say the resort can feel almost empty, which is good news for loungers and bad news if you want atmosphere. Kayak's averages run about $361 a night in October and $541 in March. It suits points families and couples who want calm over buzz.
Skip it if You want a lively scene, a sandy swimming beach or early family dinners without reservations.
Our category scores

What guests say
Kayak reviewers describe a clean, well-maintained and picturesque resort with multiple pools that are rarely crowded, good food, attentive staff, a secluded setting and paddleboarding and kayaking on the beach.
Families with young children note the buffet is only open for breakfast and the earliest dinner reservations are at 6 p.m.; others call the reservation process a mess and say the property sometimes felt almost empty.
Some reviewers mention a rocky beach, and one older review reported a hot water outage with a slow maintenance response.

6Best budget family pick
Bahia Principe Grand Tulum
Akumal, about 20–25 minutes north of Tulum
$240–$450 per night for two · Kayak 12-month averages per room/night for two: September ~$240, December ~$451; recent bookings $187–$244; checked Oct 2026
Our take
Bahia Principe's Akumal complex is the budget answer for families who want a Tulum-area all-inclusive. Bahia Principe Grand Tulum, which the brand now markets as Bahia Principe Explore Tulum, is one of several resorts on a huge shared site about 20–25 minutes north of Tulum, and this building alone has 978 rooms. Kayak scores it 8.3 out of 10 from 1,297 reviews, with averages of about $240 a night in September and $451 in December, and recent bookings under $250.
Guests like the grounds, the cleanliness, the variety of food at breakfast and the beach access. The age of the buildings shows in the complaints: dated furnishings, leaky roofs and noisy air conditioning, plus slow reception, hard-to-book restaurants and sargassum at times. Access rules between the complex's different resorts can be confusing, and some facilities may carry fees. Families on a budget who want space, pools and a long beach will do well here; read the latest reviews for the specific building you're booking before paying.
Skip it if You want a modern room or a small, personal resort.

7Best for families
Dreams Tulum Resort & Spa
Highway 307, about 5 miles north of Tulum
$270–$415 per night for two · Kayak 12-month averages per room/night for two: September ~$271, December ~$414; recent bookings $204–$285; checked Oct 2026
Our take
Dreams Tulum is the value family pick close to town: about 5 miles north of central Tulum, on a real beach, with Kayak averages from about $271 a night in September to $414 in December, the lowest of the brand-name family resorts on our list. Kids are well covered, with the Explorer's Club for ages 3–12 (open 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.), a Core Zone teens club for 13- to 17-year-olds and a water playground with six slides. Guests praise the staff, the beach and the Italian restaurant.
The scores are the catch: 7.4 out of 10 on Kayak from 929 reviews and 4.2 of 5 on Tripadvisor, with recurring complaints about food quality and portion size, crowded à la carte restaurants and maintenance lapses such as a day without water. Some Tripadvisor reviews from a construction period describe only a fraction of the restaurants and bars open, so ask what will be open for your dates. It works for families who will spend their days at the beach, pools and kids clubs and want the ruins and cenotes 10 minutes away, but not if food is the highlight of your holiday.
Skip it if You care most about food, or you want an adults-only atmosphere.
Our category scores

Critical reviewers complain about food quality and small portions, poor room service, crowded à la carte restaurants, a day without water and high prices.
One Tripadvisor reviewer who stayed during construction said only three of the nine restaurants and one of the seven bars were open for their whole stay; others mention mosquitoes and seaweed.
8The beach-road all-inclusive (with caveats)
Kore Tulum Retreat & Spa Resort
Tulum beach road (Boca Paila road Km 3.85)
Our take
Kore Tulum is the exception that proves the rule: an adults-only all-inclusive on the Tulum beach road itself, at Km 3.85 on the road to Boca Paila, about 2.2 miles from town. It's as close as an all-inclusive gets to the beach-club strip, and guests like the pool and cabanas, the spa, the ocean and garden views and the large, clean rooms. Staff get warm comments too.
But Kayak's review summary flags no direct beach access in several reviews, which surprises people who booked a beach-road resort, and food is by far the most common complaint, with 16 mentions. Hot-water problems, an outdated feel and one report of flooding also come up. Kayak scores it 7.7 out of 10 from 178 reviews, and recent Kayak bookings ran about $306 a night. We'd book it only if you want to sleep on the beach road, plan to eat out in Tulum's restaurants several nights, and accept that the all-inclusive plan is a convenience rather than the main event. For most couples, Secrets Tulum is the better-rounded option near town.
Skip it if You want beachfront sand outside your room or memorable all-inclusive food.

Pros & cons
Tulum for an all-inclusive: why go, why not
Reasons to go
- Cliff-top Maya ruins, cenotes and Sian Ka'an within easy reach
- Its own airport (TQO) with nonstops from Dallas, Miami, Atlanta and Houston
- Calm, clear beaches just north at Akumal and Xpu-Ha
- Sea turtles in Akumal's bay
- Budget all-inclusives from about $240 a night on average
- Easy to combine a boutique beach-road stay with a resort
Reasons to think twice
- Few all-inclusives in Tulum itself; most are 10–35 minutes north
- Limited flights to TQO; Cancun is about 90 minutes away by road
- East-facing beaches catch summer sargassum
- Downtown Tulum calls for extra care after dark
- The beach road is dark, narrow and pricey
- Vacation-club pitches at several resorts
The Tulum beach road: why most hotels there aren't all-inclusive
The Tulum Hotel Zone is the narrow road that runs south from the ruins toward Boca Paila and the Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve. It is lined with small, design-led beach hotels, beach clubs and restaurants, and that is the Tulum most people have seen on social media. Kayak's Tulum guide notes that beachfront hotels here are usually pricier than hotels in town.
These hotels are mostly small and sell rooms without meals, because the restaurants along the road are a big part of the experience. If you want that atmosphere, the honest advice is to book a beach-road hotel for two or three nights without an all-inclusive plan, then move to an all-inclusive farther north for the rest of the trip.
There are two partial exceptions:
- Kore Tulum Retreat & Spa Resort, an adults-only all-inclusive at Km 3.85 on the Boca Paila road. Several Kayak reviewers note it has no direct beach access, and food is its most common complaint.
- Casa Zamna at Secrets Tulum, a 21-suite oceanfront section in the Hotel Zone with its own pool and restaurant, attached to the inland Secrets Tulum resort.
For everyone else, Tulum's beaches such as Playa Paraíso are public and easy to reach by taxi or bike from town-side resorts.

Tulum all-inclusive resorts for adults only
Tulum's adults-only all-inclusives split by what you prioritize:
- Town and ruins: Secrets Tulum (Kayak 8.7/10) is the closest to central Tulum, with a beach club for sand time. Averages run about $363–$547 a night on Kayak.
- Beach and snorkeling: Secrets Akumal (9.4/10, 434 rooms) is the strongest overall, with turtles in the water nearby, but it's the priciest at about $490–$1,119 a night.
- Value: Catalonia Royal Tulum (8.7/10) on Xpu-Ha beach averages about $251–$461, roughly half the price of Secrets Akumal. Bahia Principe Escape Sian Ka'an, the adults-only part of the Akumal Bahia Principe complex, scores 8.5 on Kayak from a smaller sample.
- Service-first, farther north: UNICO 20°N 87°W in Puerto Aventuras (8.8/10) for couples who will travel to Tulum by car.
- Beach road: Kore Tulum (7.7/10) if you want to sleep on the beach road and accept the trade-offs.
One more niche option: Intima Resort Tulum in the La Veleta neighborhood is a clothing-optional, adults-only resort (8.2 on Kayak). Compare all of these with the best options across the region in our adults-only guide and couples guide.
Best family all-inclusive resorts near Tulum
Family resorts near Tulum are all north of town, so pick based on kids' ages and how much you want to explore.
- Dreams Tulum has the most complete kids setup on our list, according to its Kayak listing: the Explorer's Club for ages 3–12 (9 a.m. to 10 p.m.), a Core Zone teens club for 13- to 17-year-olds, and a water playground with six slides. It's about 10 minutes from the ruins and cenotes.
- Hilton Tulum Riviera Maya suits families who want space and quieter pools, plus Hilton Honors points. Tripadvisor reviewers praise its kids club and spa.
- Bahia Principe Grand Tulum in Akumal is the budget choice: a huge complex with 978 rooms in this building alone, a long beach and lots of pools.
- Grand Palladium Kantenah in Akumal scores 9.0 on Kayak from 306 reviews and is worth comparing with Bahia Principe.
Akumal is a highlight for kids old enough to snorkel: green sea turtles graze on the seagrass in the shallow bay. Book a guided snorkel and follow the local rules on distance from the turtles. See our family all-inclusive guide for more options.

Tulum airport (TQO) vs Cancun (CUN): which to fly into
Tulum's own airport, officially Felipe Carrillo Puerto International Airport (TQO), opened for commercial flights on December 1, 2023. It sits about 20 km southwest of Tulum town, according to Wikipedia. U.S. service is limited: American flies from Dallas/Fort Worth and Miami, Delta from Atlanta, and United from Houston plus seasonal Newark. The airport handled about 1.25 million passengers in 2025, a decrease on the year.
Cancun's airport (CUN) is about 125 km north of TQO and handled 29.3 million passengers in 2025, with nonstop service from roughly 48 U.S. cities. Kayak's travel guide puts the drive from Cancun to Tulum at about 90 minutes on Highway 307.
| Resort | Distance from TQO (Kayak) | Easier airport |
|---|---|---|
| Secrets Tulum | 13.4 miles | TQO |
| Kore Tulum | 14.1 miles | TQO |
| Dreams Tulum | 17.6 miles | TQO |
| Hilton Tulum Riviera Maya | 24.6 miles | Either |
| Bahia Principe Grand Tulum | 25.4 miles | Either (CUN is almost 60 miles) |
| Secrets Akumal | 27.2 miles | Either |
| UNICO 20°N 87°W | 31.3 miles | Either |
| Catalonia Royal Tulum | 33.7 miles | CUN (about 70 minutes) |
Our rule: if a nonstop to TQO exists from your city at a similar fare, take it for any resort from Tulum town to Akumal. If it means a connection or a big fare premium, fly into Cancun, book a private transfer and accept the longer drive. Compare Cancun flight prices in our Cancun guide.

Best time to visit Tulum and the sargassum question
December through April is the best time for most travelers. It's the dry season, the sea is clearest, and seaweed is usually light. Mexico's weather service data for the Tulum station, shown on Wikipedia, puts average highs at 85–88°F from December to April and about 90°F from May to August, with rainfall rising from about 1.2 inches in March to 7 inches in October. The Atlantic hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30, peaking around September 10.
Prices follow the weather. Kayak's Tulum data shows September as the cheapest month (about $315 a night on average across hotels) and December the most expensive (about $504), with March also flagged as high season.
Sargassum
Tulum and the coast north of it face east into the current that carries sargassum, so the June–August peak hits here too. In the first months of 2026, How Is The Sargassum's tracking found Tulum roughly in line with 2025, while Akumal and Playa del Carmen were noticeably worse than a year earlier. Riviera Maya News reported 227 tons removed in Tulum municipality by late February, against 1,195 in Playa del Carmen. Summer 2026 then brought record Caribbean levels in June.
If you must travel in summer, the best hedge is Tulum itself: cenotes and the ruins don't depend on the sea, and a town-side resort makes them easy to reach.

Ruins, cenotes and turtles: day trips from a Tulum all-inclusive
Tulum is the best base on the Mexican Caribbean for people who will actually leave the resort, so factor day trips into where you stay.
- Tulum ruins: The cliff-top Maya site is a few minutes from Secrets Tulum and Kore Tulum and about 10 minutes from Dreams Tulum. Go at opening time for the coolest temperatures and fewest people.
- Cenotes: Dozens of freshwater sinkholes sit inland from Tulum and Akumal. They're the best activity on seaweed days.
- Akumal turtles: Akumal's bay is known for green sea turtles grazing on seagrass. It is a short drive from Secrets Akumal and the Bahia Principe complex.
- Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve: Mangroves, lagoons and wildlife south of the beach road, usually seen on a guided boat tour.
- Sea turtle nesting: Riviera Maya News has reported more than 6,000 sea turtle nests on Tulum's beaches in a season, and warns that beach furniture threatens hatchlings. Leave the beach clear at night during nesting season.
If you will do more than two of these, stay in or near town (Secrets Tulum, Dreams Tulum) or budget for a private driver from Akumal or Xpu-Ha.

What Tulum all-inclusives cost in 2026
Kayak's 12-month data gives a clear spread. Average nightly rates per room for two, taxes and fees included, checked in October 2026:
| Resort | Cheapest month (avg) | Priciest month (avg) |
|---|---|---|
| Secrets Akumal | August, ~$490 | February, ~$1,119 |
| UNICO 20°N 87°W | September, ~$480 | February, ~$747 |
| Secrets Tulum | July, ~$363 | January, ~$547 |
| Hilton Tulum Riviera Maya | October, ~$361 | March, ~$541 |
| Catalonia Royal Tulum | June, ~$251 | January, ~$461 |
| Bahia Principe Grand Tulum | September, ~$240 | December, ~$451 |
| Dreams Tulum | September, ~$271 | December, ~$414 |
Across the whole market, Kayak puts the average Tulum all-inclusive at about $473 a night. Compared with Cancun, Tulum's top end is cheaper than Le Blanc or Atelier, and its budget end (Bahia Principe, Catalonia) is competitive with Cancun's Hotel Zone value resorts.
Hidden costs to plan for: transfers are longer and pricier than in Cancun if you fly into CUN; taxis into Tulum town add up from Akumal or Xpu-Ha; and several resorts on this list (Secrets Tulum, Secrets Akumal, UNICO) draw complaints about vacation-club presentations tied to resort credits. Our all-inclusive deals guide covers when prices usually drop.

Is Tulum safe? Safety and entry rules
Tulum is in Quintana Roo, which the U.S. State Department's Mexico travel advisory rates Level 2: exercise increased caution because of crime. U.S. government staff face no travel restrictions there but are told to be extra alert after dark in downtown Tulum, Cancun and Playa del Carmen and to stick to well-lit pedestrian streets and tourist zones. The UK government's advice adds warnings about drink spiking and unlicensed taxis in the region's tourist areas.
In practice: use resort-arranged transport or authorized taxis, agree fares before you get in, keep drinks in sight in town and on the beach road at night, and don't carry more cash than you need.
Entry: U.S. citizens need a passport book to fly; the tourist permit (FMM) is issued digitally at airport immigration with a QR receipt. Quintana Roo's Visitax (MX$293, about $16 per person in 2026, children included) is paid online at the official site before you leave. Our Cancun guide has more detail on Visitax scams and airport transfers.
Mistakes to avoid when booking a Tulum all-inclusive
- Assuming 'Tulum' in the name means Tulum. Check the address; some resorts are 35 minutes away.
- Expecting the beach road to be all-inclusive. It's a boutique, room-only scene; plan meals out or split your stay.
- Booking a beach-first resort for a culture trip. If you'll visit the ruins, cenotes and town most days, the drive from Xpu-Ha or Puerto Aventuras adds up.
- Ignoring TQO. If your airline flies there nonstop, it saves an hour or more each way for resorts near town.
- Forgetting seaweed season. June–August can be heavy on this coast; pick a resort near cenotes or accept that beach days may be limited.
- Saying yes to the presentation. Resort credits rarely justify half a day of your vacation.
- Skipping the most recent reviews. Renovations and service changes show up first in the latest month of reviews.

What travel-forum regulars say
Travel-forum consensus
Regulars on the Tripadvisor Tulum and Akumal forums give the same reality check we do: there are very few all-inclusives in Tulum itself. When people ask for an adults-only all-inclusive near Tulum's beach clubs, the answers are Kore Tulum on the beach road, or Secrets Tulum, which sits back in the jungle and shuttles guests to its beach club; beyond those, you are driving 20 minutes or more north. For a beach-first adults-only stay, Secrets Akumal is the resort forum regulars keep coming back to, with Akumal Bay Beach & Wellness suggested as a cheaper all-ages alternative on the same coast. On the Bahia Principe complex, posters stress that access rules differ by building and that the Akumal side has more places to eat. Some of these threads are several years old, so check current policies.
Asked for an adults-only all-inclusive close to Tulum's day clubs, regulars said Kore Tulum is the closest option, that Secrets Tulum is back in the jungle with a shuttle to its beach club, and that anything else means driving 20+ minutes north.
In an Akumal forum thread about adults-only resorts like Secrets, posters said Secrets Akumal is hard to beat if the budget allows, and pointed to Akumal Bay Beach & Wellness Resort as a considerably cheaper option that is not adults-only.
Comparing Bahia Principe's Tulum and Akumal buildings, regulars said access to the complex's other sections differs by building, food is similar, and the Akumal side simply has more places to eat.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Are there all-inclusive resorts in Tulum?
Yes, but fewer than most people expect. Tulum's beach road is mostly small boutique hotels that don't include meals. The all-inclusives closest to town are Secrets Tulum (about 1.2 miles from the center, with a beach club), Kore Tulum on the beach road and Dreams Tulum about 5 miles north. Most others, including Hilton Tulum, Secrets Akumal, Bahia Principe, UNICO and Catalonia Royal Tulum, are 20–35 minutes north on Highway 307.
What is the best adults-only all-inclusive in Tulum?
For being in Tulum itself, Secrets Tulum (8.7/10 on Kayak) is our pick. For the best overall stay, Secrets Akumal scores 9.4/10 from 764 Kayak reviews and offers snorkeling near sea turtles, about 25 minutes north. On a budget, Catalonia Royal Tulum on calm Xpu-Ha beach averages about $251–$461 a night. UNICO 20°N 87°W in Puerto Aventuras is the service-first choice if you don't mind a 30-minute drive to Tulum.
Is it better to fly into Tulum or Cancun?
Fly into Tulum (TQO) if your airline has a nonstop at a similar fare; American, Delta and United serve it from Dallas/Fort Worth, Miami, Atlanta and Houston, plus seasonal Newark. It's about 13–18 miles from Secrets Tulum, Kore and Dreams. Cancun (CUN) has far more flights from about 48 U.S. cities but is roughly 90 minutes from Tulum by road. For Akumal and Xpu-Ha resorts, either airport works.
What is the best family all-inclusive resort near Tulum?
Dreams Tulum is our family pick: it's about 10 minutes from the ruins, has a kids club for ages 3–12, a teens club for 13–17 and a water playground with six slides, and Kayak averages run about $271–$414 a night. Hilton Tulum suits Hilton Honors families who want quieter pools. Bahia Principe Grand Tulum in Akumal is the budget choice, with recent Kayak bookings under $250 a night.
When is the best time to visit Tulum for an all-inclusive?
December through April brings dry weather, the clearest water and the lightest seaweed, but also the highest prices. September and October are cheapest (Kayak's Tulum average is about $315 a night in September) but fall in peak hurricane season. Sargassum usually peaks June–August on Tulum's east-facing coast, so summer visitors should plan cenote days as a backup.
Is Tulum safe for tourists?
Tulum is in Quintana Roo, which the U.S. State Department rates Level 2 (exercise increased caution) because of crime. U.S. government staff are told to be extra alert after dark in downtown Tulum and stay on well-lit streets and in tourist zones. Most visitors have trouble-free trips; the practical precautions are using resort-arranged or authorized taxis, agreeing fares in advance, watching your drink and avoiding the dark beach road on foot at night.
How much does an all-inclusive in Tulum cost?
Kayak puts the average Tulum all-inclusive at about $473 a night for two. On our list, averages range from about $240 a night at Bahia Principe Grand Tulum in September to $1,119 at Secrets Akumal in February. Mid-range options such as Hilton Tulum, Secrets Tulum and Dreams Tulum typically average $270–$550 depending on the month. Add Visitax (MX$293 per person) and transfers, which cost more if you fly into Cancun.
Are Tulum beach road hotels all-inclusive?
Mostly not. The beach road toward Boca Paila is lined with small boutique hotels and beach clubs that sell rooms without meals, because the road's restaurants are part of the appeal. Kore Tulum is an adults-only all-inclusive on the road, but reviewers report no direct beach access. If you want both, book two or three nights on the beach road and then move to an all-inclusive.
