Quick answer
- The best Jamaica all inclusive resorts open in October 2026: Couples Swept Away (couples, Negril), Sandals Dunn's River (luxury, Ocho Rios), Beaches Negril (families) and Excellence Oyster Bay (adults-only, about 30 minutes from MBJ).
- Hurricane Melissa, a Category 5 storm, struck on October 28, 2025. Negril and Ocho Rios resorts are open, but about 30% of hotel rooms were still out of service in September 2026, mostly around Montego Bay.
- Still closed: Hyatt Ziva and Zilara Rose Hall, Secrets St. James and Wild Orchid, Breathless and Dreams Rose Hall (phased reopening in the first half of 2027). Sandals Montego Bay and Caribbean Cay return December 18, 2026.
- Best value: Riu Palace Tropical Bay on calm Bloody Bay (about $313 to $1,105 a night) and Bahia Principe Escape Runaway Bay for adults-only on a budget (about $304 to $537).
- Fly into Montego Bay (MBJ): about 4 hours nonstop from New York and under 3 from Atlanta. Allow roughly 1.5 hours by road to Negril or Ocho Rios.
- The State Department has rated Jamaica Level 2 (exercise increased caution) since January 2026. Resort guests mostly stay on property and book transfers and tours through vetted operators.
Our verdict
Our verdict: book Negril or Ocho Rios for 2026–27
If you are booking Jamaica for this winter, the storm has made the decision simpler. Montego Bay's Rose Hall strip, normally the island's busiest all-inclusive zone, is missing most of its Hyatt-run resorts until the first half of 2027, and some open neighbors are working around construction. Negril and Ocho Rios, by contrast, have most of their big resorts back, with plenty of fresh 2026 reviews to judge them by.
For couples, Couples Swept Away is our pick: a top stretch of Seven Mile Beach, a rate that includes MBJ transfers and scuba, and steady 4.4-bubble reviews. If budget allows, Sandals Dunn's River is the most polished resort on the island right now, at 4.8 on Tripadvisor. Families should start with Beaches Negril and price-check Riu Palace Tropical Bay and Moon Palace Jamaica as cheaper alternatives. Want a short transfer? Excellence Oyster Bay is about 30 minutes from the airport and open.
Give recently reopened resorts, especially Royalton Negril and Hideaway, a few months: reviews since August praise the staff but describe unfinished details. These picks are based on 2026 guest reviews, official reopening lists and published price ranges, not on our own stays.

Hurricane Melissa: which Jamaica all-inclusive resorts are open (October 2026)
Hurricane Melissa made landfall near New Hope, Westmoreland, on October 28, 2025, with 185 mph sustained winds, the strongest hurricane to hit Jamaica on record (Wikipedia summary of NHC data). The worst damage was in Westmoreland and St. Elizabeth, where Black River was devastated, but Montego Bay also flooded, the Sangster airport terminal was damaged, and Falmouth and Hanover were badly hit. Damage estimates run from US$8.8 billion to US$12.2 billion.
Tourism has come back, but unevenly. Officials put the rebound above 80% of pre-storm levels in April 2026 (Jamaica Gleaner). In September, Open Jaw reported that about 30% of the island's hotel inventory was still out of service and that arrivals through August were 17% below 2025.
Open now (major all-inclusives)
- Negril: Couples Swept Away, Couples Negril, Sandals Negril, Beaches Negril, Riu Negril, Riu Palace Tropical Bay, Azul Beach, Hedonism II, Grand Lido, both Princess resorts, and Royalton Negril and Hideaway (back since August 25, 2026).
- Ocho Rios and Runaway Bay: Sandals Ochi, Sandals Dunn's River, Sandals Royal Plantation, Couples Sans Souci and Tower Isle, Moon Palace Jamaica, Riu Ocho Rios, Bahia Principe Escape.
- Montego Bay to Falmouth: Excellence Oyster Bay, Grand Palladium and Lady Hamilton, Iberostar Selection and Iberostar Waves Rose Hall, Riu Montego Bay and Riu Reggae, Royalton Blue Waters (reopened September 2026), Deja Resort.

1Best overall for couples
Couples Swept Away
Seven Mile Beach, Negril
$485–$857 per night for two · Tripadvisor average standard-room rate range for 2 adults, taxes excluded, shown October 2026
Our take
Couples Swept Away is the resort we would book first for a couples trip to Jamaica this winter. It sits on 19 acres of Seven Mile Beach, has 312 suites, seven restaurants and eight bars, and a 10-acre sports complex that Couples bills as the island's largest. The rate covers more than most rivals: round-trip transfers from Montego Bay airport and unlimited scuba are on the Couples inclusion list, which is worth roughly $200 on a Negril trip at the private-transfer prices forum regulars quote.
The reviews back it up. Tripadvisor guests give it 4.4 from more than 8,000 reviews and a 2026 Travelers' Choice award, and 2026 reviewers keep coming back to the same things: the beach, the staff, and the a la carte restaurants. The weak spots are just as consistent. Shade on the beach is limited, some rooms feel dated, and a few guests report noise at night. The resort was open again soon after the storm, so recent reviews already reflect the post-Melissa product. Expect a three-night minimum and plan at least four nights to work through the restaurants.
Skip it if You want a modern, design-led room or a lively party scene; this is a classic, low-rise beach resort.
Our category scores

What guests say
Couples Swept Away has one of the most amazing beaches we’ve experienced.
Several mid-2026 reviewers say there are too few beach huts and umbrellas, so shade means getting up early, and a few mention night-time noise and slow air-conditioning repairs.
Guests through 2026 repeatedly name individual staff and praise the a la carte restaurants, especially Feathers and Lemongrass.

2Best luxury adults-only
Sandals Dunn's River
Mammee Bay, near Ocho Rios
$792–$1,537 per night for two · Tripadvisor average standard-room rate range for 2 adults, taxes excluded, shown October 2026
Our take
Sandals Dunn's River is the highest-rated big all-inclusive in Jamaica right now: 4.8 on Tripadvisor from about 2,200 reviews, a 2026 Travelers' Choice award, and sub-scores of 4.8 or higher for rooms, cleanliness and service. It is the former Jewel Dunn's River, renovated and rebranded by Sandals, with 260 rooms on the coast west of Ocho Rios and the falls a few minutes away. It was among the five Sandals and Beaches resorts that reopened in December 2025.
What you pay for is polish. Reviewers in 2026 single out butler service, the grounds and the restaurants, including Banyu. The complaints are small but real: butlers reserving pool loungers that then sit empty, some third-floor rooms with weaker views, and a transfer of about an hour and a half from Montego Bay. At roughly $800 to $1,500 a night it costs more than Couples, so book it if you want the most finished resort on the island and do not mind paying for it.
Skip it if You are price-sensitive or want a long walking beach; Negril's sand is better and Couples is cheaper.
Our category scores
Pros
- Top-rated big resort in Jamaica on Tripadvisor (4.8)
- Newer, rebuilt rooms and grounds
- Highly praised butler service and dining
- Dunn's River Falls on the doorstep

- Pool loungers get reserved early

What guests say
You'll notice that the grounds are kept manicured and the lobby, pool area maintained at all times.
The pool area is large and has a couple of bars, but you have to be up early to secure a sunbed
Reviewers in April and October 2026 note the long airport drive, expensive off-resort transport and slippery pool tiles and dim paths at night.

3Best for families
Beaches Negril
Seven Mile Beach, Negril
$813–$1,647 per night for two · Tripadvisor average standard-room rate range for 2 adults, taxes excluded, shown October 2026
Our take
With Beaches Ocho Rios closed for a long rebuild and the former Jewel Runaway Bay not yet open as a Beaches, Beaches Negril is the only Beaches resort operating in Jamaica in 2026, and it is still the easiest family all-inclusive on the island. It has 197 rooms on Seven Mile Beach, a water park, kids' camps and water sports, and it reopened in December 2025. Tripadvisor guests rate it 4.5 from almost 10,000 reviews, with service (4.6) the standout.
Families in 2026 reviews praise the entertainment team, butlers and kids' activities. Food draws mixed comments, and maintenance is the recurring weak spot: one September 2026 stay coincided with floor work, noise and no daytime hot water, and an August guest had a suite that would not cool. It is also expensive, $800 to $1,600 a night for a standard room on Tripadvisor's ranges, and the drive from Montego Bay takes around an hour and a half. Book it if you want everything included for the kids and a great beach; look at Riu Palace Tropical Bay if the price stings.
Skip it if You are on a budget or your kids are older teens who would rather have nightlife than kids' clubs.
Our category scores
Pros
- Best kids' programming in Jamaica
- Seven Mile Beach location
- Highly rated service (4.6)
- Water park and water sports included

What guests say
Summer 2026 families consistently praise the entertainment and bar teams, the butlers and the kids' activities, water park and water sports.
A September 2026 guest reports floor renovation noise, fumes and no daytime hot water; an August guest says the suite's air conditioning never cooled properly.

4Best adults-only near the airport
Excellence Oyster Bay
Oyster Bay peninsula, Falmouth (Trelawny)
$548–$2,621 per night for two · Tripadvisor average standard-room rate range for 2 adults, taxes excluded, shown October 2026; top end is villa pricing
Our take
Excellence Oyster Bay is our pick for adults who do not want a 90-minute transfer. It sits on a private peninsula near Falmouth, about 30 minutes from Montego Bay airport by the resort's own count, and it is open, which matters while most of Rose Hall's Hyatt-run resorts stay shut into 2027. Tripadvisor guests rate it 4.5 from more than 8,800 reviews, and it ranks first in Falmouth.
The product is modern and suite-based, with an Excellence Club tier, beach villas with private pools and the Miilé Spa. Reviewers praise the staff, the water and the restaurants (Spice and The Grill come up often). The pattern of complaints is about consistency rather than the setting: housekeeping timing, slow room service and long waits at busy restaurants, plus value scores that trail the rest of the ratings. Book a standard Excellence room in shoulder season and it is good value; at villa prices, compare it with Sandals Dunn's River first. Falmouth itself took heavy storm damage, so do not plan on much life outside the gates.
Skip it if You want a long natural beach to walk; Negril's Seven Mile Beach is the better choice.
Our category scores
Pros
- About 30 minutes from MBJ
- Open while Rose Hall rivals are closed
- Modern suites and an Excellence Club tier
- Calm water around the peninsula
Cons
- Housekeeping and room-service delays in reviews
- Value scores trail other ratings
- Little to walk to outside the resort
- Villa prices climb fast

- Room tiers

What guests say
Staff are the most praised feature, with many reviewers naming employees; the beach area, water clarity and restaurants such as Spice and The Grill also get frequent praise.
Recurring complaints cover housekeeping timing, towel shortages, slow room service and long restaurant waits; value is the lowest Tripadvisor sub-score at 4.4.

5Best Marriott points pick for families
Royalton Negril
Bloody Bay, Negril (Hanover)
$284–$720 per night for two · Tripadvisor average standard-room rate range for 2 adults, taxes excluded, shown October 2026
Our take
Royalton Negril was one of the last big Negril resorts to come back. It stayed closed for about nine months and reopened on August 25, 2026, returning hundreds of rooms and 960 jobs, according to the Jamaica Tourist Board. It is now part of Marriott's Autograph Collection All-Inclusive line, so Bonvoy members can earn and burn points here, and the 407-room resort sits on calm Bloody Bay at the north end of Negril.
Early post-reopening reviews are split. Guests who arrived in September praise the butlers and staff and say the resort looks well restored. Others describe hours-long waits for rooms at check-in, pool filter, power and elevator problems, and bland food at some restaurants. Its Tripadvisor value score (3.7) is the weakest on our list. We still rate it as a fair family pick because prices start well below Beaches and the bay is gentle for kids, but we would wait for a few more months of reviews, or book refundable, before committing a holiday week.
Skip it if You need everything to run smoothly on your dates; early reopening reviews describe check-in delays and outages.
Our category scores
Pros
- Calm Bloody Bay beach suits kids
- Marriott Bonvoy points eligible
- Freshly restored after Melissa
- Cheaper than Beaches Negril
Cons

6Best adults-only on Bloody Bay
Hideaway at Royalton Negril
Bloody Bay, Negril (Hanover)
$369–$826 per night for two · Tripadvisor average standard-room rate range for 2 adults, taxes excluded, shown October 2026
Our take
Hideaway is the adults-only enclave of Royalton Negril: 140 rooms with their own adults-only areas and, as at other Hideaway properties, access to the larger Royalton next door. It reopened with Royalton Negril on August 25, 2026. Before the storm Hideaway was the better-reviewed of the pair, and its own Tripadvisor listing still shows 4.5 from about 3,800 reviews (the family side shows 4.2), with rooms, cleanliness and sleep quality all at 4.5.
It is a good way to get a quieter, more upscale stay on Bloody Bay while keeping Marriott Bonvoy benefits and paying less than Couples or Sandals. The caution is timing. Reviews from September and October 2026 praise the bartenders, butlers and grounds, but also mention areas still being finished, missed housekeeping, slow room service and power interruptions. Management replies acknowledge the problems. If you can travel in late winter or spring 2027, the odds of a smooth stay should be better than in the first weeks after reopening.
Skip it if You are traveling in the next couple of months and cannot tolerate reopening glitches.
Our category scores
Pros
- Adults-only with access to the larger resort
- Strong pre-storm ratings (4.5)
- Bonvoy points and status benefits

7Best value in Negril
Riu Palace Tropical Bay
Bloody Bay, Negril (Hanover)
$313–$1,105 per night for two · Tripadvisor average standard-room rate range for 2 adults, taxes excluded, shown October 2026
Our take
Riu Palace Tropical Bay is the resort we suggest when someone wants Negril's beach without Sandals or Beaches prices. It has 452 rooms on Bloody Bay, 24-hour all-inclusive service, three pools, a buffet plus Italian, Japanese, steakhouse and fusion restaurants and a beach jerk station, and it takes families as well as couples. Tripadvisor guests rate it 4.2 from about 8,700 reviews, it won a 2026 Travelers' Choice award, and its location score is 4.6.
The beach and the bar and pool staff are what 2026 reviewers love. The frustrations are classic big-chain ones: a la carte reservations that open at midnight or two days ahead and sell out, no elevators (a real problem for anyone with mobility issues), occasional plumbing and air-conditioning faults, and loud evening shows. The last full refurbishment was in 2018, so rooms are tidy rather than new. For a family of four on a budget, or couples who care more about the sand than the thread count, it is the best value on Jamaica's west coast.
Skip it if Anyone in your group has limited mobility; the resort has no elevators.
Our category scores
Pros
- Calm, sandy Bloody Bay beach

8Best big family resort
Moon Palace Jamaica
Ocho Rios
$403–$747 per night for two · Tripadvisor average standard-room rate range for 2 adults, taxes excluded, shown October 2026
Our take
Moon Palace Jamaica is the north coast's big-resort family option: more than 700 rooms in Ocho Rios town, pools, a spa, evening entertainment and a kids' program, with Dunn's River Falls, Mystic Mountain and the cruise pier all close by. It is open, it hosted the JAPEX tourism trade show in September 2026, and Tripadvisor guests rate it 4.4 from about 7,900 reviews.
Food is a strength for a resort this size. Recent reviewers name the jerk hut, Momo, Gondola and the Jamaican breakfast station, and parents call it very kid friendly. The negatives are about scale: slow check-in (one August 2026 family waited until 10 p.m. for a room), slow elevators in the south wing at busy times, inconsistent housekeeping, and membership sales presentations. The beach is a modest town beach rather than Negril-style sand. Book it if excursions and variety matter more to you than the beach, and if anyone in your group has limited mobility, ask about elevator access when you book.
Skip it if You want a quiet, intimate resort or the island's best beach.
Our category scores
Pros
- Lots for kids and teens to do
- Strong food for a large resort
- Close to Dunn's River Falls and Ocho Rios attractions

August and September 2026 reviewers describe a room not ready until about 10 p.m., worn furniture, slow south-wing elevators and pushy membership sales presentations.
9Budget family pick (with caveats)
Grand Palladium Jamaica & Lady Hamilton
Point, near Lucea (Hanover)
$309–$695 per night for two · Tripadvisor average standard-room rate range for 2 adults, taxes excluded, shown October 2026
Our take
The Grand Palladium Jamaica and its twin, Grand Palladium Lady Hamilton, form one of the largest all-inclusive complexes on the island, halfway between Montego Bay and Negril. The Grand Palladium side alone has 544 rooms, and between the two there are big pools, plenty of restaurants and a beach at Sunset Cove. It is open again after the storm and taking bookings, and it is one of the cheapest ways to get a full-service family all-inclusive in western Jamaica.
We include it with honest caveats. Its Tripadvisor rating is 4.0 from more than 19,000 reviews, but rooms (3.9), service (3.8) and value (3.8) are the weakest of any resort here, and 2026 reviews describe long check-in lines, slow shuttles between buildings, towels that never arrived, leaks and broken fixtures, and a July reviewer who found the rooms outdated after the hurricane. Staff and the pools get praise. Book it for price and space, and go in with modest expectations.
Skip it if You care about room quality or fast service more than price.
Our category scores
Pros
- Low prices for a full family all-inclusive
- Huge pools and lots of space
- Between Montego Bay and Negril
- Twin resorts share facilities
Cons
- Weakest ratings for rooms, service and value on our list

What guests say
We had to request them every single night, and on some nights they were never delivered at all.
October 2026 guests praise friendly, helpful staff, the large pools, clean beaches, especially Sunset Cove, and activities such as the rum tasting.
10Best-value Sandals
Sandals Ochi
Ocho Rios
$525–$869 per night for two · Tripadvisor average standard-room rate range for 2 adults, taxes excluded, shown October 2026
Our take
Sandals Ochi is the cheapest way into the Sandals system in Jamaica and one of its most reviewed resorts: 4.3 on Tripadvisor from more than 15,600 reviews. It has 523 rooms spread across hillside and beachfront villages plus a separate beach club, many restaurants including Le Gourmand and Kelly's, and it reopened in December 2025 after the storm.
That spread is both the appeal and the catch. You get variety, but 2026 reviewers say they spent a lot of time waiting for shuttles between the villages and the beach. Some rooms and fixtures are dated, entertainment draws mixed reviews, and vacation-club sales pitches come up. Staff, butlers and cleanliness score well. If you want the Sandals experience for a few hundred dollars a night less than Dunn's River, book a beachfront room category at Ochi so you are not relying on the shuttle.
Skip it if You hate shuttles or want a single walkable beachfront property.
Our category scores
Pros
- Lowest Sandals prices in Jamaica
- Big choice of restaurants
- Well-reviewed staff and butlers
- Open since December 2025

What guests say
The room was clean, spacious, and comfortable, which was a big plus.

11Best quiet adults-only on the north coast
Couples Sans Souci
East of Ocho Rios (St. Mary)
$496–$824 per night for two · Tripadvisor average standard-room rate range for 2 adults, taxes excluded, shown October 2026
Our take
Couples Sans Souci is the small, quiet alternative to the big Ocho Rios resorts. It has 150 rooms and suites terraced above a small cove, six restaurants and six bars, three pools, a natural mineral pool and Charlie's Spa, and the rate includes the Couples extras, such as round-trip transfers from Montego Bay. Tripadvisor guests rate it 4.6 from 5,400 reviews and gave it a 2026 Travelers' Choice award; service (4.7) is the top sub-score.
Guests in 2026 praise the staff, breakfast, grounds and water sports. The building is old, though, and it shows: reviewers mention rusty fixtures, pests and an aging property, plus limited evening menus and repetitive entertainment. The beach is a small cove, not a long strand. It suits couples who want a calm, personal resort with lots included and do not need everything to be new. If you want new rooms, pay up for Sandals Dunn's River instead.
Skip it if You want modern rooms or a big beach; it is a cove resort with older buildings.

12Cheapest adults-only pick
Bahia Principe Escape Runaway Bay
Runaway Bay (St. Ann)
$304–$537 per night for two · Tripadvisor average standard-room rate range for 2 adults, taxes excluded, shown October 2026
Our take
Bahia Principe Escape Runaway Bay, the former Bahia Principe Luxury Runaway Bay, is an adults-only (18+) 24-hour all-inclusive and the main big resort open in Runaway Bay in 2026. It has five restaurants, three pools and three bars, and Tripadvisor lists 525 rooms with a 4.0 rating from almost 6,000 reviews. Prices on Tripadvisor's ranges start around $300 a night, which makes it the cheapest adults-only option on our list.
What you get is a clean, comfortable resort with friendly staff and good entertainment, according to 2026 reviewers. What you give up is food: the most common complaint is limited variety, understaffed restaurants and closed outlets while the family sister resort, Bahia Principe Explore Jamaica, is renovated ahead of its December 1, 2026 reopening. Expect some construction disruption until then. Book it if price is the deciding factor and you want quiet; spend more on Couples Sans Souci if food matters.
Skip it if Food is a big part of your vacation; reviewers consistently say the dining needs work.

Pros & cons
Jamaica for an all-inclusive: why go, why not
Reasons to go
- A deep bench of adults-only resorts (Couples, Sandals, Excellence, Hideaway) at several price points
- Short flights: about 4 hours nonstop from New York and under 3 from Atlanta
- Seven Mile Beach and Bloody Bay in Negril are among the best resort beaches in the Caribbean
- Real excursions: Dunn's River Falls, river rafting, cliffs and Blue Mountain coffee country
- Many resorts are freshly repaired or renovated after Melissa, and post-storm deals are common
Reasons to think twice
- Montego Bay's biggest resorts, including Hyatt Ziva and Zilara and both Secrets, stay closed into 2027
- Level 2 advisory and off-resort crime mean most guests stay on property
- Negril and Ocho Rios transfers take 1.5 hours or more from MBJ
- Recently reopened resorts report teething problems in 2026 reviews
- October is the wettest month and hurricane season runs June to November
Where to stay in Jamaica: all-inclusive areas compared
Jamaica's all-inclusives line the north and west coasts, and the area you pick decides your beach, your transfer time and, this year, how many resorts are open.
| Area | Drive from MBJ (approx.) | Beach | Best for | 2026 status |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Montego Bay and Rose Hall | 10 to 30 min | Good, some small | Short transfers, golf | Many big resorts closed until 2027 |
| Falmouth and Trelawny | 30 to 45 min | Calm coves | Adults-only near the airport | Open |
| Hanover (Lucea, Green Island) | Under an hour | Moderate | Value family resorts | Open |
| Negril (Seven Mile Beach, Bloody Bay) | About 1.5 hours | Best on the island | Couples, families, sunsets | Open |
| Runaway Bay | About 1.25 to 1.5 hours | Narrow, reef-sheltered | Quiet, cheaper adults-only | Partly open |
| Ocho Rios | About 1.5 to 2 hours (or about 1.5 from KIN) | Small coves | Waterfalls, rafting, tours | Open |
| South Coast (Whitehouse, Treasure Beach) | About 1.5 to 2 hours | Wild, uncrowded | Seclusion | Hardest hit; rebuilding |
Negril all-inclusive resorts
Negril is our first choice for a beach week. Seven Mile Beach is long, soft and calm, Bloody Bay at the north end is even gentler, and the West End cliffs give you sunset bars a short taxi ride away. Most Negril resorts reopened between December 2025 and March 2026, and the Royalton trio returned in August 2026. The trade-off is the drive: plan on about 90 minutes from Montego Bay.
Ocho Rios all-inclusive resorts
Ocho Rios trades beach quality for things to do: Dunn's River Falls, Mystic Mountain, river tubing and the cruise pier are all close. Beaches are mostly small coves. It is the best area for travelers who will book two or three excursions, and it is the one north-coast area you can also reach from Kingston.
Montego Bay, Falmouth and Runaway Bay
Montego Bay normally has the most resorts and the shortest transfers, but in 2026 most of the Rose Hall heavyweights are closed. Falmouth's Excellence Oyster Bay and Royalton Blue Waters are the closest open alternatives. Runaway Bay, between Falmouth and Ocho Rios, is the quiet, cheaper middle ground.

Best adults-only all-inclusive resorts in Jamaica
Jamaica has one of the deepest benches of adults-only all-inclusives in the Caribbean, and almost all the good ones are open this winter. Our order, based on 2026 reviews, ratings and price:
- Couples Swept Away (Negril): the best mix of beach, inclusions and price for couples.
- Sandals Dunn's River (Ocho Rios): the most polished, highest-rated adults-only resort open now, at a premium.
- Excellence Oyster Bay (Falmouth): the pick if you want about 30 minutes, not 90, from the airport.
- Couples Sans Souci (Ocho Rios): small, quiet and service-led, in older buildings.
- Hideaway at Royalton Negril: good value on Bloody Bay with Marriott points, once reopening glitches settle.
- Sandals Ochi: Sandals for less, if you accept shuttles.
- Bahia Principe Escape Runaway Bay: the cheapest adults-only stay, with weaker food.
Niche options also open in Negril include Hedonism II and Grand Lido Negril Au-Naturel, both clothing-optional, and Couples Negril, a smaller sister to Swept Away. Riu Montego Bay and Riu Reggae near the airport are adults-only too and cost less again; we cover them in our Montego Bay guide. For a wider list across the Caribbean, see our adults-only all-inclusive resorts page.
Note that Secrets St. James, Secrets Wild Orchid, Hyatt Zilara Rose Hall and Breathless Montego Bay, all adults-only, remain closed until 2027, so ignore older lists that still rank them.
Best Jamaica all-inclusive family resorts
Family choice in Jamaica is narrower in 2026 than usual. Beaches Ocho Rios is closed for a long rebuild, the former Jewel Runaway Bay has not reopened, and the Hyatt Ziva in Rose Hall stays shut until 2027. That leaves five strong options:
- Beaches Negril: the most complete kids' program, water park and butlers, at the highest price.
- Riu Palace Tropical Bay: calm Bloody Bay beach and family-friendly prices; no elevators.
- Moon Palace Jamaica: a big Ocho Rios resort with lots for kids and easy access to Dunn's River Falls.
- Royalton Negril: Bloody Bay plus Marriott points, but recently reopened.
- Grand Palladium Jamaica and Lady Hamilton: the budget option, with big pools and weak room scores.
Near Montego Bay, Iberostar Selection Rose Hall Suites and Iberostar Waves Rose Hall Beach are open and family-friendly, and Royalton Blue Waters in Falmouth reopened in September 2026. Bahia Principe's family resort in Runaway Bay is due back December 1, 2026.
Family suites and connecting rooms sell out first for Christmas, New Year and Presidents' Day. If you are traveling in those weeks, book by early fall and confirm bed configuration in writing. Our family all-inclusive resorts guide covers options elsewhere in the Caribbean and Mexico.

Best time to go to Jamaica (and hurricane season)
December through April is the best and most expensive time to visit. Montego Bay averages highs of about 86 to 89°F and two to three inches of rain a month from January to April, according to NOAA's 1991–2020 climate normals (Montego Bay climate table). February is the driest month, with about 1.7 inches.
Rain picks up in May (about 5.9 inches) and again from September through November, peaking in October at about 6.2 inches. Summer is the hottest stretch, with highs around 92°F in July and August, but it is often sunnier than the shoulder months.
Hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30. Melissa arrived on October 28, which is a reminder that late-season storms can be the strongest. If you travel from August to November, buy insurance before a storm is named and check whether your resort or package offers a hurricane policy.
For prices, the cheapest resort weeks are usually September to early December, outside Thanksgiving. For flights, KAYAK's data shows January has the lowest average US round-trip fare to Montego Bay (about $490), while December and July are the most expensive.

Getting there: Montego Bay (MBJ) vs Kingston (KIN) and transfer times
Fly into Montego Bay (MBJ) for almost every all-inclusive on this page. Sangster International reopened for limited flights on November 1, 2025, after storm damage to part of the terminal, and is now operating normally. KAYAK lists nonstop flights of about 4 hours from New York, just under 3 hours from Atlanta and about 3 hours 55 minutes from Chicago. American runs the most nonstops (about 56 a week), followed by JetBlue, and typical US round-trip fares run $442 to $744.
Kingston (KIN) makes sense for Ocho Rios (roughly 1.5 hours via Highway 2000), Port Antonio and the Blue Mountains, but it has fewer US nonstops and is a long drive from Negril.
Transfer times from MBJ (approximate)
- Rose Hall and the airport strip: 10 to 30 minutes
- Falmouth (Excellence Oyster Bay, Royalton Blue Waters): 30 to 45 minutes
- Negril: about 1.5 hours
- Runaway Bay: about 1.25 to 1.5 hours
- Ocho Rios: 1.5 to 2 hours
Couples includes round-trip MBJ transfers, and Sandals and Beaches have long bundled them too (confirm on your booking). Otherwise, regulars on the Tripadvisor Negril forum say $200 to $240 round trip for two is a typical private-car price to Negril from an established local driver. Use resort transfers or licensed tour operators rather than unmarked cars, and try to land early enough to avoid a long drive after dark.

Is Jamaica safe for an all-inclusive trip? Advisory level and staying on-resort
The U.S. State Department lowered Jamaica's travel advisory from Level 3 to Level 2, "exercise increased caution," on January 17, 2026, and kept it at Level 2 when it reissued the advisory on June 23, 2026 (Caribbean Journal, State Department). The advisory cites crime and health risks and flags specific higher-risk neighborhoods, so read the current version for the parish you are visiting.
For resort guests, the practical picture is reassuring. Most all-inclusives are gated, staffed around the clock and self-contained, and the people who report problems in reviews usually describe pushy beach vendors or timeshare sales, not crime. Sensible habits:
- Book airport transfers and tours through your resort or licensed operators.
- Avoid driving between towns at night, and do not wander off-property after dark.
- Keep valuables in the in-room safe and carry a copy of your passport.
- After heavy rain, avoid wading in floodwater; leptospirosis cases rose after Melissa.
Recovery adds one more consideration. The south coast and some inland areas are still rebuilding, so excursions such as Black River safaris or YS Falls may run on reduced schedules. Ask your resort tour desk what is operating before you book.
What a Jamaica all-inclusive costs (and booking with flights)
Using the standard-room price ranges Tripadvisor showed in October 2026 for two adults, Jamaica's resorts fall into three bands:
| Band | Example resorts | Typical nightly range |
|---|---|---|
| Value | Bahia Principe Escape, Grand Palladium, Royalton Negril | About $285 to $720 |
| Mid-range | Riu Palace Tropical Bay, Moon Palace, Sandals Ochi, Couples Swept Away | About $310 to $1,100 |
| Premium | Beaches Negril, Sandals Dunn's River, Excellence Oyster Bay | About $550 to $2,600 |
Tipping
Couples and Sandals include gratuities in their rates; butler tips at Sandals are the common exception. At most other chains, tipping is customary; small US bills for bartenders, servers and housekeeping are normal, and US dollars are widely accepted at resorts.
All-inclusive resorts in Jamaica with flights
Packages that bundle flights and a resort can beat booking separately, especially on charter-heavy routes and in the January low point for fares. Compare a package price with KAYAK's typical $442 to $744 round-trip fare per person plus the resort rate. Post-storm promotions are also common: Half Moon has run free-night offers on its reopening (Half Moon offers), and Princess advertised up to 60% off when Princess Senses The Mangrove reopened in February 2026 (TravelPulse). See our all-inclusive resort deals page for current offers.

Mistakes to avoid when booking Jamaica in 2026–27
- Booking a Rose Hall resort without checking its status. Hyatt's seven Montego Bay-area resorts are closed until a phased reopening in the first half of 2027, and Riu Palace Jamaica is closed for renovation until December 2026.
- Trusting pre-storm reviews. A resort that rated well in 2024 may have new rooms, new staff or unfinished areas now. Read reviews from after its reopening date.
- Spending your first night in Montego Bay on the way to Negril. Forum regulars call it a waste of a night; the transfer works fine on arrival day if you land by mid-afternoon.
- Underestimating the drive. Negril and Ocho Rios are each about 90 minutes or more from MBJ. Budget the time and, if you are not on a Couples or Sandals package, the $200 or more for a private round trip.
- Missing minimum stays. Couples resorts require at least three nights, and holiday weeks often carry longer minimums.
- Ignoring resort fees on third-party bookings. Some non-inclusive luxury hotels collect mandatory fees at check-in that online agencies do not show.

What travel-forum regulars say
Travel-forum consensus
We read the busiest recent threads on Tripadvisor's Jamaica and Negril forums (May to October 2026). Three points come up again and again. First, regulars steer Negril-bound travelers away from a first night in Montego Bay: land, transfer and start your holiday on the beach. Second, they treat 2026 reopenings with caution. In a September thread about a November group trip, a destination expert warned that many Royalton Blue Waters reviews predate its September 15 reopening and that staff training could take months, while Riu Negril and Riu Palace Tropical Bay were recommended for their beaches. Third, transfers are a recurring question; posters agree that $200 to $240 round trip for two to Negril with an established driver is typical. Couples Swept Away is consistently described as a fantastic property, with the caveat that its beachfront rooms often have palm-obstructed views and that you need four or more nights to enjoy it.
It's absolutely a waste to spend a first night in Mobay when going to negril no matter what time you get there.
A destination expert advises caution on Royalton Blue Waters because most reviews predate its September 15, 2026 reopening; other replies recommend Riu Negril and Riu Palace Tropical Bay for their beaches and flag the Princess resorts' remote location.
Posters agree that about $200 to $240 round trip for two is a typical private-transfer price from MBJ to Negril with an established local driver, and suggest getting several quotes.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Are Jamaica all-inclusive resorts open after Hurricane Melissa?
Most are. As of October 2026 the Jamaica Tourist Board lists nearly all Negril and Ocho Rios all-inclusives as open, including Couples, Sandals, Beaches Negril, Riu and Moon Palace. The big exceptions are around Montego Bay: Hyatt Ziva and Zilara Rose Hall, both Secrets resorts, Breathless and Dreams Rose Hall are due back in phases in the first half of 2027, and Sandals Montego Bay and Caribbean Cay reopen December 18, 2026. Always confirm with the resort before paying.
What is the best all-inclusive resort in Jamaica?
For most couples we recommend Couples Swept Away in Negril for its beach, inclusions and price. Sandals Dunn's River near Ocho Rios is the most polished and highest-rated big resort, at 4.8 on Tripadvisor, but costs about $800 to $1,500 a night. Families should start with Beaches Negril.
What are the best adults-only all-inclusive resorts in Jamaica?
Our top adults-only picks open now are Couples Swept Away, Sandals Dunn's River, Excellence Oyster Bay, Couples Sans Souci and Hideaway at Royalton Negril. Sandals Ochi is the cheaper Sandals option, and Bahia Principe Escape Runaway Bay is the lowest-priced adults-only resort we reviewed. Skip lists that still rank Secrets, Zilara or Breathless in Montego Bay; they are closed until 2027.
What are the best Jamaica all-inclusive family resorts?
Beaches Negril has the most complete kids' program and a water park, but it is expensive. Riu Palace Tropical Bay and Royalton Negril on Bloody Bay are cheaper beach options, Moon Palace Jamaica suits families who want excursions around Ocho Rios, and Grand Palladium Jamaica is the budget choice with weaker room ratings.
Is Negril or Montego Bay better for an all-inclusive?
In 2026, Negril. It has Jamaica's best beaches and nearly all of its resorts are open, while many big Montego Bay resorts are closed until 2027. Montego Bay wins on transfer time, 10 to 30 minutes versus about 1.5 hours, so it can make sense for a short trip once its resorts return.
Is it safe to stay at an all-inclusive resort in Jamaica?
Most visitors who stay at resorts have trouble-free trips. The State Department rates Jamaica Level 2, exercise increased caution, citing crime and health risks and flagging specific neighborhoods. Use resort or licensed transfers, avoid driving between towns at night, and book tours through your resort or a reputable operator.
When is the cheapest time to go to Jamaica?
Resort rates are usually lowest from September to early December, excluding Thanksgiving week, which is also the wettest and most storm-prone part of the year. For airfare, KAYAK's data shows January has the lowest average US round-trip fare to Montego Bay, about $490, while December and July are the most expensive months to fly.
Can I book Jamaica all-inclusive resorts with flights included?
Yes. Most US tour operators and online agencies sell flight-plus-resort packages to Montego Bay, and Sandals and Couples sell packages directly. Compare the package price with KAYAK's typical $442 to $744 round-trip fare per person plus the resort rate, and check whether transfers are included.
How far are Ocho Rios resorts from the airport?
Plan on about 1.5 to 2 hours by road from Montego Bay's Sangster airport (MBJ) to Ocho Rios, depending on traffic and roadworks. Kingston's Norman Manley airport (KIN) is about 1.5 hours away via Highway 2000, which can be handy if you find a better flight into Kingston.
